Problems with 2nd hand Steel Wheels

Alright there Guys!
I'm looking for a set of 6nr steel wheels. Frogs have a good price but
carriage is killing me.
Anyway I'm now looking at steel wheels and pondering how to make sure
I don't end up with the wrong ones.
Don't suppose anyone knows the off set of Factory Steel Wheels?
Reason I ask is I have access to a second hand set with an inside off
set of 4.5" and an outside off set of 3.5". How important is it to
have the correct off-set I wonder?
I'm also assuming that all 6 wheels need to be the exact same - ie no
mix and matching between say a set of Hilux steel wheels and a set of
LC ones.
The other potential issue is Nuts - depending on the wheel - you may
or may not need new ones - any way of finding this out in advance?
Any advise or input appreciated
Thanks

Niall,
Not sure about the offset figures but the Hilux rims are too narrow.
You need 7.5 width or more AFAIK.
The nuts for other LC steel rims should fit. Make sure you have a few
spare nuts and wheel studs.

Niall,
Have a look at your existing wheel nuts, if they have a simple taper from
the hexagonal part down to the threaded hole then they will work with Toyota
steel wheels. If they have a flat washer section then you'll want to change
them.
I'll need to check but I *might* be able to find you a 16 x 8 Toyota steel
or two if you need to make up a set of six (you'll usually find sets of four
or five for sale).
The Toyota rims are made from 8mmm thick steel so they aren't exactly light
things to ship. Dead strong though, I've heard of aftermarket steels
cracking (IIRC the overland-underwater guys had endless problems with this)
but never Toyota ones.
Going rate for these seems to be about =A340 a rim - did Frogs do better than
this?
All the best,
Toby

Oh, and I'm pretty sure the oem 16 x 8 rims are zero offset - i.e. the
mounting surface is dead centre.

Thats good info there - thanks very much.
Had never come across that off set issue before - you definetly learn
something new every day.
I remember the boyz on overland underwater having to have cracks on
their wheels welded up.
OEM have to be the prefered option - but they are like hens teeth...
If I get a few and need another for the set will put a call out -
thanks Toby.
Frogs selling steel rims @ 36+ VAT - they look OK but aren't 8mm
I'm going to keep hunting for a second hand set of OEM for a few weeks..
Keep it lit

Niall,
You will think this absolutely stupid and unnecessary. But just in
case you have any mates down there or know of any transport firms
going that way - it is not unknown. There are piles of these wheels,
mostly split rim, and all from little used UN Toys.
Auto Otpad Rajlovac, Sarajevo. (On the Zenica road, over the railway
crossing, last breaker on the right before the Velpro supermarket.
All my s/h spares came from there and I got a bit for Julian there
too. I have seen Irish trucks in the city, and there are still NGO's
sending aid supplies there - often on the way to Kosovo. It will be a
while before I get down there again though. (Too busy taking the rays
in Cyprus ;o) FWIW anyway.
Cheers

Nicosia, Cyprus (no ex UN Toys here just Irish LR's)

G'man Jon!
All leads appreciated - even one in Sarajevo!
I do know a few lads in haulage - will look into it.
I could probably shift a container load of steel wheels!
Thanks
Niall

I would take six split rim 16" factory wheels, a container is a shed load
though, well actually a few garden shed loads.
