Hi all
As can be gathered fom my last posts, I am in the process of rebuilding a R151 gearbox and tx case from my 76 . I am aware of the problems which seem to plauge these boxes and they seem to be, lubriation, shoddy clearance setup from the factory and towing in 5th gear. Soft bearing retainers and thrust washers also add to the bad reputation.
Taking tips from all the rebuild posts and u tubes from shops who specialise in beefing up these boxes, can give one the ilusion that a good job can be done in your own workshop, so who am i to buck the trend.
Our local guru has let slip that he removes the bearing seals and uses TF454 oil in the box and transfer case, and along with precise clearance settings, goes along way to producing a good reliable box.

Thoughts on the oil and bearing seals and some of your own experiances please!!
regards
George.
