Radiator warning

Hi Guys, just a warning if your truck starts to overheat. Long story short I was having problems with overheating and after I tried all the normal things I eventually took to the main dealer who struggled to find what the problem was but eventually was found to be a blockage in the rad half way down and to one side! anyway after picking myself up off the floor at the price they quoted for a new rad I went on fleebay and found a new one for £160 (this is my Colorado by the way) after fitting and filling up with the correct fluid I tried it again and was good. Or so I thought :-( fine if driving normal but as soon as you tow anything then it's hard in the red again so moral of the warning is watch what you buy from ebay as they are inferior junk, better to go the 'real' thing and save a lot of hassle and in the long run money too. P.S. Yes I did reverse flush, checked flow, changed thermostat, checked head and checked pump.

Hope there's no damage done mudplug.

When my top tank split on the 80 I had to replace the rad. Chose OEM in the end to save all the hassle of disappointments from after market, repaired or second hand units.

That was 5 years ago and it's never missed a beat since.

Have you fitted the new mrT rad and did it cure the problem . I only ask because my collie overheat problems turned out to be caused by the viscous fan touching the cowl , it was fine most of the time but pushed hard at speed the cowl would distort .

I would not trust the dealers diagnosis. I guess you have another problem which a better radiator is masking. If it's the cooling system at fault it's either the pump, thermo or radiator. If it's an engine problem I think you'd be losing water.

You could try running without the thermo and seeing if the engine remained cool. If it overheated still you could try removing the rad cap (care!!) and revving the engine whilst looking at the water with thermo still out. It should move up and down indicating a good pump expanding the hoses slightly. Also the water should swirl about as there is no resistance through the thermo.
