Rear Cargo Windows

Hi everyone

I hope this hasn't been covered before -sorry if it has

I found on ebay a new rear cargo window - solid type, with a new seal

I was wanting to replace my 2 piece sliding cargo windows with this and was wondering if it would be a direct swap, IE would the new seal fit my frame being as I currently have the sliding windows. Has anyone done this before ?

Hi Rob and welcome to the forum.
You will find that the opening in the bodywork is identical for both the sliding and fixed window types so the glass will fit straight in. It's a pretty easy job TBH. If you have a look on the Gullwing doors thread here:-

there's detailed instructions on removal and refitting. In your case of course you are fitting glass instead of one of the gullwings.

The only real difference is the black plastic grill thingy towards the rear of the truck. Beware, if caught these break off very easily. They are slightly further from the glass in the sliding form. A piece of black electrical tape covers the gap pretty well for the gullwings, it may well work OK for the glass replacement unless you want to shell out for new ones as fitted to 81s.

Should work now Rob. As you can probably see, I've had these windows in and out more times than I care to mention. They're not tricky at all. You may find the new rubbers fit tightly, which should give a watertight seal. If not then I have used butyl screen sealer which works really well but truly you shouldn't need it. Any problem you can always pop them out again they are so easy. Also there maybe rust under the sliding frame so it's a good time to treat that if you have any.
