Though allowing the preceeding binaries/pix is the larger no-no in
list-server context....I recommend to filter that out, can cause tons
of havoc on both list and members mailboxes in case of a mail-loop +
bounce-sequence....

Hi Jon,
As Willem says - not me guv!
It might actually be helpful if people using Outlook could setup the
ELCO address to only receive text formatted messages - this should keep
the message sizes down and the keep the fonts standardised.
At the moment I'm not overly fussed about attachments, although in
future I'll look into a better way of handling them so that they are
stored on the site, not sent out via email.

Unless you never go on holidays, and keep an eye on the ist 24/7, you

It only takes one spammer to get access to the list (or someone elses
account), or a bounce-back-to-list (= mail-loop), and it will create
havoc on mailboxes around the world.
Have seen it happen once, nasty beyond imagination, only a few folks
'survived' (by having generous providers with unlimited mailbox).
Makes me very very weary to stay subscribed when going on holidays
myself....

Hi Willem-Jan,
I monitor the list via my mobile, with each new message coming straight
through to me.
The list traffic is automatically put through a anti-virus and spam
filter so have a reasonably good level of protection.
Am part way through developing a new system that will do some further
checks as well as strip out attachments, sticking them on the site, with
links to them being sent out to everyone instead of the files (only for
images - other files will get dumped.
It will also provide an archive facility (with all messages going back
to the beginning of the list) as well as a web forum interface, for
people who prefer that.
It is something I have persuaded a client to pay for so I can bump it up
the list of things to do.
I just wish I had a bit more spare time so that I can do a bit more to
the site - will have to wait for my hols when I can tinker whilst wife
and kids swim/sun bathe!
