Riding The Stack..Anyone got a copy PLEASE ?

It was the most amazing documentary I've ever seen. I recorded it.....then lost it.

It was shown years ago on telly and was a program interviewing astronauts who were shot into space on top of the giant Atlas rockets in the 60's + 70's. It included on board footage in the cockpit during take off. The noise and vibration were absolutely terrifying. How all those instruments stood it all I've no idea.

This one Frank? Seems like you have to sign-in to watch it.

Thanks for the link Clive but I can't get anywhere without creating an account. Is the title there then?

I don't know mate, but I guess you'd get there with a subscription. I'll try to find a free download over the w/e, if I do I'll pm you.

Thanks Clive. Doing a general search I think there is a fiction film with the same title, but it's the official documentary I'm after.

Frank, this was a BBC HORIZON programme aired in 1987. If you write to the BBC they may be able to help you. A lot of BBC doc are subject to copyright so they may say no.

I have been trying for years to get hold of their 3-part CONGO documentary, which cannot be released because of copyright allegedly.

Good luck

There used to be a page somewhere on the BBC where you could register interest in a particular program and if enough people did so the Beeb would consider re-broadcasting it but that could take a very long time and I don't think the page exists anymore anyway. I was in a similar situation a few years ago regarding a World About Us program about the Vietnam War. I registered interest but haven't seen or heard anything since.

From the trawling that I've been doing, I think you can subscribe and get the whole series of Horizon on download. No promises, but that's what it was showing.

All the series, year by year. 1987 is listed and the "Riding the Stack" was one of the titles in that year.

It said it was for free, but you still have to enter your credit card details to subscribe. I'll still try to get it by other means...

I have all 11 of the "Planet Earth" series with David Attenborough in HD (2.5GB per clip). They're Blue Ray rips I think , but stunning quality.

Thanks everyone :icon-biggrin:.

That's the one Clive. You won't regret it if you can get it. Stunning program. 1987 seems like only yesterday :icon-cry:.

No luck as yet Frank, I've tried all the sites I can find, nothing. It's not because it's old, there's plenty of the Horizon docs from '87, just not that one...

Not given up yet though.... :icon-biggrin:

Just asked the daughter coz she downloads and watches films all the time , she said she will show me how to get it without signing up or paying anything next time shes here so i will let you know Frank .

I can find it easy , just can't watch it without signing up .

Thanks Shayne.

The power of just the fuel pump on those Saturn 5 rockets was the same power of a 747 plane on take off!!!

I also searched for this when you posted it and for some reason I did so again today and found it here ..... https://m.ok.ru/video/281921981157. There’s no payment, no registration and I watched on my TV by casting it from my iPhone to the AppleTV. Interesting. Mostly about shuttle launches.

Shows up my bad memory. It was obviously about the shuttle not the Atlas. Still amazing though and thanks for posting. Link works for me.

Back in the late 60's Heinz did a promotion of some limited edition full colour posters of the various Apollo rockets and launches with shots inside the command capsule. You saved up the labels from the promotional tins of beans and sent off for them. I ended up with around half a dozen IIRC. Does anyone else reminder these? Can't for the life of me remember what became of them but I wish I'd still got them, they may be worth something.
