Rough idle after running battery dead

Hello, this is my first post here, seems like a great forum!
I am the proud owner of an 86 landcruiser 60 series. I use it mostly for hauling firewood and have an electric winch on it. The other day I was pulling a tree out of the woods with the winch, and even though she was idling the whole time, the alternator/battery couldn't keep up and winching slowed down and down and then all of a sudden the engine stalled out and when I finally did get it started after charging the battery the idle is really high(without choke pulled) then when it's fully warm the idle fluctuates between high and a rough low. Engine runs great at higher rpm's but wants to stall at idle. Any ideas?
Thanks in advance, Paolo.

Hi there

is your truck petrol or diesel?

also have you checked the voltage when it is running it could be 14.4? It could be your alternator is running hard to charge the battery, it might all be cured if you charge the battery to 13.25 before putting it back on the truck

it could also be far more to this but this is what I would do first
