Hi

Any recommendations for a online route planner. Best I have found is google maps, but it seems limited to 10 way points. Also can see info on total distance.

ViaMiichelin is great for working out costs but is limited for 8 way points.

Any recommendations for a route planner.

Regards

Gary

http://www.wikiloc.com/ is not bad, bit clunky, uses OSM maps with contours added (depending on area) free maps can't be bad, lots of GPX tracks available as shared resources, again depending on area.

ViewRanger is good, very similar to Memory Map, you can do route planning offline, downside is the maps can be expensive, and not all areas are covered.

Garmin have generic software for route planning too, exportable gpx files etc. can also use OSM maps, but detail on them can be limited depending on area.

If you're tech savvy there is a program called Map2MapC from here...

You can import any map, free OSM maps or scans of paper maps, ariel photos pretty much anything, you can add NASA elevation data and overlay contours - pretty much the best solution I have come across, though I've not actually beat the tech learning curve yet I know others have.

Once you have the map installed, contour layered, scalled etc. you can export it in pretty much any format for any program, it even does Memory Map formats so you can do the route planning on that platform, and use it as a GPS track on a map with a tablet. This is the way I'm heading unless something easier to use with cheap/free maps comes up before my next trip.
