Rust Repairs and Respray

This was a fascinating post, very informative. Thanks for sharing.

Front end being done. Arches have had a new radius cut and inner wing moved up to accommodate larger tyres/more travel. Will also stop the little bit of rubbing I had at full stuff.

Looks very tidy, what size tires and travel you having?

I typically run Michelin XZL 255/100/16 which measure just under 37”. I am currently on a set of 35s but will move back to either a 37 or possibly a 38.

Lift is currently 3”. Travel is approx 11” in total front and rear - 5” up and 6” down

Haha, serious size, can see why you need to clearance the arches with them.

You modifying it for a specific purpose, ie competing, or just for fun?

Filler on both front wings. This is just to limit any mud/water getting into the inner wing. Easy to grind off and replace if I ever need to remover the outer wing.

Clearance not really needed for the 37s but gives me a bit of flexibility both on size and width. Was really only done as with all the rust cut out, the option was to rebuild or replace the arch, or just increase the radius. For the front increasing the radius was the easier option.

The truck is used for touring

You probably already decided on paint but ever since i used Hammercote and then found they do a smooth satin black I've almost regretted my trucks paint is to good to cover . Coo-Var | Hammercote Smooth Finish Metal Paint - [Leaving Land Cruiser Club]

That looks like good paint. Unfortunately, the extent of repair my bodywork needed to address the rust means I need to be creative about the paint. Painting the whole truck is out of the question though I am going to explore just getting a new clear coat done. The bottom half of the truck I will probably just use stone chip in the pattern on the truck below. The paint only needs to be functional in preventing rust, so anything I can easily maintain and repair myself is preferable.

I'd put satin on with a roller , its shine that takes maintenance and care . I used a light blue to paint boat engines so can't say how smooth it would go on but all the while i was using it i was thinking its about time someone brought back the recipe for the good old fashioned hammerite an this is surely it .

Looks awesome with the trailer! How do you find touring with a trailer, not worried about getting stuck on any tight trails?
I do like the idea of being able to leave your 'home' to go exploring rather than having to pack the roof tent away each time.
Where was that photo taken?
