Rust Repairs and Respray

Respray prep is now in progress. I’m only having an ‘economy’ job and not having the whole truck done for a few reasons. Firstly is cost, I simply can’t afford a full respray or a high quality job. Secondly, the main thing I am looking to achieve is rust prevention.

I am therefore having only the lower half and bonnet done. Roof is being left. I’m also not doing the tailgate as it doesn’t need it. When I remove the rooftent I’m going to paint the roof white.

Not being done by me but by a local sprayer. They are all from Portugal and mostly service the local taxi workforce. They are only up the road from me and quoted a price too good to refuse. I asked for an overspray only but they insisted on doing a better job! No oven and a basic set up but do take some pride in doing a good job. Colour will be the same as before.

I had intended to have a go myself but the reality of doing it on the street just seemed too hard.

Whilst I had it off the truck, I have taken the opportunity to spruce up the ARB. It is not in great shape with some significant rust in the side quarters, so I cleaned it all up, used rust converter and it’s had 8-10 coats of Hammerite satin black. Again, not great, but a 100 times better than it was and it’ll serve for a good while till I source a replacement.
