just got home from an excellent days laning!
a few people will recognise some of the lanes, as we did them on the laning trip i organised.
first lane was Buildwas lane.
stopped to lock the hubs, before the rough stuff.
got to the end of one of the lanes, and realised we were missing a truck.
after waiting a few minutes i went back to see what had happened, as the truck that was missing didnt have a cb radio.
what i found was not something you see very often. a broken down landy
landy fixed, it was onto the next lanes.
we havnt had any rain for a while, and the river crossings were very low.
one of my favourite signs.
muddiest lane in Shropshire next. its been like this for the past 5 years, and hasnt got any better or any worse.
landrover got stuck and had to winch.
my truck had been leaning very far over, so much so that mud out of the bank was embedded in the side of the truck.
a few of us decided to drive back up it, as this is slightly harder as its up hill.
had to use the winch for the last bit as i couldnt get through.
and through.
decided to use the winch again, as the angle the truck was on felt very close to going over.
i got to the end of the lane, and back onto tarmac and realised id ripped one of the valves out of a tyre.
rock slider jacking point worked faultlessly.
only down side of not carrying the spare on the back door. luckily the mud didnt smell too bad.
back on the lanes.
was a beautiful day.
big river crossing next, which i crossed a few times to try and wash some of the mud off the from underneath the truck.
the next ford is where i killed one of my suzuki's, many years ago.
not very deep this today though.
beautiful scenery in this part of Shrropshire.
yet another ford.
the last lane of the day, is the most challenging lane ive found in this area. it was very over grown when i first found it and opened it up, i didnt look like it had been driven for many years, as a lot of reasonable sized trees had grown in the middle of the right of way.
but first we had to change yet another wheel.
and were off.
very over grown still.
no pics coming down, as i had to crawl down in 1st low, and keep as far to the right as possible to avoid slipping off the track.
got to the bottom and found the landowner has constructed a huge earth bank, obviously to try to stop people from using the right of way.
after a quick discussion we decided the best way forward, was not to try and winch are selves over the bank, but to remove a few small trees and drive further down the lane.
chainsaw made very light work of clearing the way.
we were soon down and through the gate at the bottom and back on the road.
we turned onto the road at the bottom and the farmer flagged me down. at this point i was ready to explain that i had been on a legal right of way.
but this wasnt necessary. the farmer couldnt have been happier to see us. he asked if we got down ok, and we explained what we had done, and that a huge earth bank had been constructed. he then went on to explain that the landowner who lives in a cottage next to the lane keeps trying to block the lane, and hes not happy about it, as its his right of way aswell, and that he uses it to get to his fields at the top. he said please keep coming back and driving it, as your helping to keep it open!
all in all a great day out, and will be the last time i lane in this area in my truck. i will still be out every other week laning with my mates, but i wont be driving my truck anymore.
just one big last trip for me in my cruiser next weekend!
