Lio,
Good day. Here is a link to the 55l tank you mentioned.
http://george4wd.taskled.com/auxtank.html
Have a look at the rest of the site as well.

Anyone who has just got an 80 could learn a lot from this.
Windows - slow to operate in the cold. A cheap temporary fix is to
spray the rubber channels with a silicone type spray - I use "Back to
Black" cockpit spray. The best fix is to fit new channels as suggested
by John Held on the lscool list recently - see the Birfield archives.
Auto boxes - sorry I know nothing!!!
Regards Gareth Jones.
Regards Gareth.

Re - I hate to see that empty space above my spare tire =3D> has anyone of you
done something with it?
My spare is carried on the back so there's a bit more room.... but
On my way back from Morocco last christmas an ingenious young Moroccan tied a strap & wire in there and tried to hitch a ride to Spain last christmas.
Luckily he was found by Moroccan customs who gave him a boot up the ass and sent him on his way...
Needless to say we had a good look to make sure he hadn't stashed any contraband before running the gauntlet of spanish customs - didn't find any :-(
Well you asked for ideas!!!
Niall
PS - This idea is Copyright of a 12 year old Moroccan trying to make a break for freedom!!

Hey Lio
How is it going. I thought you had left the list and also thought you were
in the process of getting rid of the 80 for another cruiser. Gareth is
correct, (As Always)
the window problems happen us all. Spraying will only last a while and then
its back to slow/not working windows.
I replaced one window motor and other bits, cant remember the names sorry,
and it made no difference at all.
I cant wait untill it gets cold here and I have my window down only to find
it starts to rain very heavy, im on a motorway and my window now wont go up.
O the joys of owning a landcruiser.
I would say its very bad for our friends on the list in the northern
countries.
cheers

John,
Me correct always - no chance!!
Re the windows - most of those people who have changed the rubber
channels report a significant improvement.
How was Old Trafford?
Gareth.

Hi Niall
I also have the rear carrier and have thought of using the under wheel space
as a tool box of some sort. I thought this would free up space on the inside
of the boot.
But thats as far as I got got with the idea cause I cant make one myself,
but just thought it could go up and down with the pully as the wheel and
tyre did.
cheers

Alright John
You could fit a 150ltr fuel tank in there with a separate filler nozzel - on the inside of the vehicle. Fill it with green diesel and run the alcoholic on tax free juice. The existing tank could be kept full of real stuff for when the customs & excise man dips !!
I dream a dream........
Shame on me for even thinking of such a thing!!!!
Lio - all this thinking is going to get someone in trouble...
Niall

Hi all
I just decide not to open it in the winterrrrrrrrrr

Hi Lio,
Probably repeating what others have said, but the best general approach is:
1. Clean all the seals and apply a silicone based polish to them to
lubricate. You really want to get a screwdriver in there to scrape the dirt
away from the felt on the inner track of ther seal. I use a screwdriver, a
toothbrush and then plenty of water to clean out the tracks. It helps to
actually pull the seals out of the vehicle.
2. You can also use something like Armoral or some other rubbver reviver to
soften up the rubbers again before applying the silicone.
3. Strip down the switches to clean them and apply new grease.
4. Use a dry style grease for all the moving joints on the framework inside
the door.
5. If you are feeling rich actually replace the rubber seals, they do get
tired and whilst the above is a temp solution you will need to do it every
12 months or so.
Are you referring to the play all along the drive train - if free wheeling
and then you apply the accelerator you can get a jolt from the drive line
as the slack is taken up in all the joints. This is common on all 4x4s,
although with 80s it can be more severe than on other 4x4s. Not really
much you can do about it beyond checking all the UJs to make sure there is
no slack there.
Beyond that it gets expensive so just learn to live with it.
