Speedo cable

Hi there,
daughter owns a BJ 40 1979 in Darwin, Australia.
Speedo cable has broken at the gearbox end. Which way does the cable come out from the bottom or the top at the speedo itself?

Hi from the top but it is $19 for the new speedo cable in and out I have one for me fj45 pick up have a look on all4x4 hop it helps Tony I love the old 40.
