Spurious mail from me ?

Friends, I am just a little worried that despite comprehensive protection
software on my PC there may be a worm somewhere in the system that has sent
out a mail to all and sundry on my address book.
I have had a message returned to me as undeliverable, sent to an address
that I do not recognise, but sent by my familiar 'toy80' address which is
used exclusively for TLC mails only. This mail appears to be a short
dissertation - in German - on the destruction of Dresden in 1945. My
German speaking wife tells me that there is no contemporary reference or
implied warning to recipients etc.
If any of you have received this then please accept my sincere apologies.
For several months I have had a lot of spam on this address which I think
had been harvested from the Yahoo list used by 80scool over the 4 years
that I have been a member. I had been considering deleting the address and
using a slightly modified alternative, this I will now do. I will advise
Julian of this asap.

Don't worry, in an office mailbox that we had to abandon due to spam,
we were getting daily dozens of such undelivered emails with our
return address. Anyone's email address can be spooffed. It's like
flies - annoing but mostly harmless and impossible to eradicate.

Hi Toy80,
I'm not sure if it is you machine - I have received several messages as well
and they all seem to come from the same Australian IP address
(203.113.233.97).
If you can search the headers of the emails you receive, you might be able to
pin down the culprit by searching for that IP address.

I wouldn't fret. It's far more likely that someone else with your email
address in their address book has a virus. Many viruses send out fake
emails with "Reply to" addresses selected at random from the infected
person's address book, to make it harder to trace their origins.
I get such "you have sent us a message with a virus" messages about once
a week, despite the fact that our corporate email system / firewall has
security that makes Fort Knox look like a doddle.
There is nothing you can do about it other than changing your email
address.
