Dear all,
As some will know I have a Landcruiser and a Pajero, being based in mid
Portugal I have the opportunity to take some long distance trips into
Europe, locally we also have a mass of off road trails and can range for
over 100 Kilometers around the mountain tracks.
Next January three 4x4=92s from the village are off to Morroco to watch the
first stage in Africa of the Lisbon-Dakar, we will be camping out for two
weeks and I needed a suitable storage system and security grilles which
could be switched between the LC and the Pajero, a local Brit used to manage
a metal fabrication factory in the West of England and volunteered to design
the system.
What this guy has produced is a work of art!, based upon a German aluminuem
profile system it comes complete with a built in/removable stainless steel
table which can take 300 kilos and a chequer plate interior top which can
carry 250kilos, power take offs for the fridge and other electrics and fold
down rear door flap for cooking etc, with around 400litres of secure storage
it is anchored by using the last row seat fixings to the wheel arches, the
whole thing unbolts and can be lifted out in about 10 minutes.
The whole unit can be changed and re-formatted quickly due to it being a
complete modular system, you can add or subtract parts easily and dismantle
and store when not in use, the =93move and lock=94, facility allows you to
change to fit other vehicles, therefore you buy it once and use for any 4x4
in the future, so far the cost of parts has been =A3578, he charged the labour
in beer!.
For the security grilles he had to use a small local metal forming company,
the window guards were =A3 50 each, which seemed expensive but the =93dog guard=94
section behind the rear seat was =A380, this is fixed using the rear seat belt
fixings, all in all a good result and a very good looking piece of kit,
Regards,
Chris.
