Hello

I have a 105 series with 1hz na engine
I don't really want to put a turbo on it because I feel I don't need much more performance out of it but a little more would be good.

So I'm looking at putting a new exhaust system on. I'm torn between 2.5 inch or 3 inch and whether or not to put a muffler on or not. I would like it to be relatively loud but not rediculous.

Hopefully someone has some experience in this or advice

Thanks in advance

Brad

1hz na need a bit of back pressure, performance will suffer with a 3”. 2.5” is big as you can go. Extractors, a high flow snorkel (not an eBay cheapie) and a 100 air filter all help too

Hi Wedgetail
I have a safari scoop on snorkel. What do you mean about a 100 air filter? I have the stock standard big round one in there
Cheers

The HDJ100 and UZJ100 air filters have a larger diameter element - same box though. So putting one of them in will improve flow (slightly, but it all adds up), and certainly increase dust carrying capacity.

Is your snorkel the one that goes along the guard (HF), or goes into the guard behind the wheel (regular)?

I went to a specialist stainless exhaust manufacturer and he showed me the power and torque bands for different pipe sizes for my HZJ 80 with the 1HZ engine and I went for 60mm (2.5” near as dammit).

He built it with a small firebox and a medium sized muffler, but no tailpipe box. The system is full length, sounds great but not too noisy. Tunnels and roadside retaining walls sound nice.

It goes well, can’t say I’ve had it dyno’d or anything, but she purrs along better than before the change.
130 kph is her max on the level, running 33” tyres.

Shes got 460k km on the clock so what can I expect? I’ve not made any other changes, running the standard air filter box for the 80 (not sure that’s the same as the 105).

A muffler doesn't have to reduce volume to turn a harsh roar that annoys people into a deep growl that even granny likes to hear .

80s run the same filter element effectively as a 105, but 105 has a bigger box. So you can put the bigger filter in a 105 for better flow but not in an 80
