Swap dash clocks - speedo etc

It has its own little counter, similar to the odo. So when its reset it will count again to 60000 miles from whatever point it was reset from.
thats always been my understanding.

well mine was last done at 184k ( 84k tht is) so I imagine it is pre programmed by the mechanical cpu on the back I mean who ever changes the belt on exactly the round number.... Chris and me perhaps....no OCD worth taling about so move along....

Ive changed my timing belt three times, the next due in about 15000 miles. Not once has the light come on in increments of 60000 miles from zero.
#moves along#:)

CP - spot on - someone a while ago took it apart to prove this. Nothing clever, just a separate mile ticker...

That’s exactly it, if it comes to it move the digits back to zero manually. I think there’s a little solenoid or similar that lets it roll over back to zero.

I am in total disagreement given my large sample if anecdotal evidence! There is no way it was changed at 180,000 last time and when it came on the 1/10 mile counter was nang on zero. Lets say someone drives the car for +30k without changing and then resets it just sell the car. That means it wont light up for another 60k for the new owner. In fact I'm pretty sure my dads hiace came on at 180k exactly but that was a while ago

There’s no need to swap the entire clock set, source a secondhand clock set, with a working timing belt light reset mechanism, and swap the parts on to yours. I’d this on mine many years ago.

The rest mechanism is very fragile, push it hard and it will break.

Not a difficult job, just a little fiddly, remember to take plenty of pics of where the plugs go!

Exactly. If someone doesn’t reset it for 30k Miles it won’t start counting again whether or not the T belt has been replaced.

If i cant zero it while my belt is new it serves no purpose then as it will come on at the wrong times so i may as well just remove the bulb .

See if you can get it to reset when apart and if not, take the bulb out but make a good note of when the belt was changed and go by that.
