Touch Screen recommendations please

Could people please tell me about Touch Screens please? I fancy trying one with my Laptop to see if I get on with it, I don't want to spend a lot of money though unless I have too  ATM I'm just using the Laptop which has a 12" screen, but it does dominate the passenger area somewhat.

I think I would use my "Ram" Ball and extension (that I already have) and then buy a Ram VESA Mount so I can mount it on there, it would be out of the way but I could still see the screen OK.

This is the one I got for Lil'Blue, and although it's not top of the range it suits my needs and use profile:

Have a look on the above site as they do have better (and more expensive) screens, but in the end I decided for the amount I use Lil 'Blue for I could not justify the better units.

Things to think about is where you will be placing the screen and how much direct sunlight you will be getting on it. As Crispin said to me, if the sun shines on it, well then drive on a few yards and problem sorted

I would get one of these http://linitx.com/viewproduct.php?prodid=12073 but I'm waiting for my existing monitor to break first  Mounting them a bit lower down, like mine, does quite a good job of keeping the sun off and you could always make a little hood for it to block even more.

Jon, does that recommendation still stand or have you found something better - been a few months

Gary I've been using this Lilliput screen now for more than 2 years, http://www.lilliput.cn/809GL-80NP.html and I'm very happy with it. I use mine only as a GPS and I prefer the 4:3 screen for a GPS, for the simple reason on a GPS I want to see more in front of me not to the sides. On a 16:9 you see more to the side than the front. I use mine in very dusty areas and bad corrugations and it is still perfect. I use a RAM camera suction mount to attach it to the windscreen.

My old monitor was/is still going strong but I decided to try 'sunlight readable' ones, 1st a 10" which was too big really which Ian has bought and then this 8" which is what I'm using now and works well so far.

has anyone made a support arm to store a screen in the glovebox, and then extend it out for when you're driving?

some obscure linkage arm could work...

The challenge would be getting it rigid enough to stop the monitor shaking when extended.
