Urgent SOS - Wanted 4x4 mechanic in southern Spain

Hi,
I have just been having a chat with Jeremy Llewellyn-Jones who is on
his way down to Morrocco.
His inner axle seal has just gone on one side in a major way and he has
a lot of oil coming from the knuckle seal and the end of the
driveshaft.
Do any of you know anybody in the Ronda/Andalucia area of Southern
Spain who is in a position to be able to fix this for him.
He will be checking out local 4x4 places that he comes across, but any
recommendations for people experienced with TLCs would be appreciated.
The parts side of things isn't necessarily the problem it's just an
issue of trying to find a suitable mechanic.
If you have any ideas, please either call me on my mobile or drop me a
line.

Hi Roman,
Milner sent him down a seal kit and I sent him down the Toyota inner
axle seal that arrived at the end of last week.
He got into a local LR/Santana workshop today and was doing the work
himself with the help of one of the mechanics.
I had a couple of calls with questions after he had got the CV joint
out this morning, looks like the CV and driveshaft are all OK so just a
case of cleaning everything up an putting it back together with new
grease.
As far as I am aware the front axle was serviced before he left with
all the seals replaced. Not sure exactly what caused inner axle seal
to fail (too much oil in diff or diff breather blocked), but he did
note that the inner axle seal was not a genuine Toyota one.
Apparently the CV joint is in perfect condition with little wear and
there was no obvious wear on the driveshaft.
UPDATE: Just had a text from him and he is all done and on the road
already.

Uhhh, it took him a while. I guess Jeremy was not in a hurry
sightseeing Spanish POIs.
It's hard to imagine Toyota Spain can't deliver parts in three days
from Bruxelles.

Hi Roman,
I think it was a case of organising the workshop time, but he got into
the workshop first thing this morning and cracked on with it.
He was having problems getting the parts and also from memory all the
seals from toyota for one side were around ?180, but only ?32 from
Milner for both sides, so worth the wait.

Hi Jeff,
Not really.
The main problem is that the breather for the diff on the pre-95 80
were prone to blocking so when the diff heated up through prolonged use
it would force diff oil past the seal into the cv joint.
The oil flushes the grease out of the CV joint leading the premature
wear, which in turn leads to greater movement of the driveshaft causing
more wear on the seal, a bit of a viscious circle.
On one 80 I worked on the driveshaft hand been moving around so much
that the seal had worn a grove in it.
It is worth noting that some of the cheaper replacement inner axle
seals aren't as good as genuine Toyota ones and don't cope as well with
driveshaft movement caused by CV joint wear.
Do you know if they checked the breather? If not read thee info on
http://www.lcool.org/technical/80_series/breathers.html about removing
the flapper valve.

Well done Jeff,
The most common problem with the breather in standard form is that you
can occasionally get oil going up it when turning corners and these
leads to the valve blocking - this has been partially resolved in later
models by fitting a small expansion chamber just before the valve.
