and in a meeting today a colleague quietly said "Dilbert?"

And yes, the meeting at that point was Dlibert-esque

A lot of the humour in the Scott Adams cartoons comes from readers submitting their anecdotes from real office life.

I worked for a Scottish Bank (Senior IT Manager) it is all horribly reminiscent of the total nonsense that goes on in big organisations, perpetrated by 'managers' with no training and egos so large there is no room for brains. The 'Pointy-haired Manager' is far too understanding and approachable; the real thing is thoroughly nasty, underhand, self-promoting, makes important decisions on a "what's in it for me" basis and treats the staff as 'surfs'.

If you take the work seriously, apply yourself with dedication, are successful in implementing systems with few problems you are 'black-balled' - as the majority don't work that way.

Being English didn't help either.

As one on my team said . . "You're not like the other Managers, are you".

I couldn't wait to get out.

Bob.
