Hi Guys
Just wondering what the weights stamped on the plate in the engine bay are.
I ask because they dont corispond to the weight on a weigh bridge at the local recycle site.
The plate says 2960kgs and 6460kgs.
I know the lower is the empty weight and the other the full weight but the lower does not come near the 2520kgs at the weigh bridge.
Also when taking out the yearly breakdown cover it states they will only repatreate the cruiser if it does not exceed the gross weight so I presume thats the 6460kgs is that correct.
The new road tax for a new cruiser is now at 2000 euro yearly how is that for a rip off.

A stock machine is a touch under 2300kg empty, and you've probably got some extra kit in there to get you up to 2520kg. The 2960 is the max fully loaded vehicle weight which, when added to 3500kg of trailer, gives 6460kg max permitted vehicle + trailer weight.
Road tax here is a bit up in the air at the moment as our beloved government tries to decide which of its many self-created holes to climb out of, but for larger engined vehicles registered before 2001 it is =A3180 this year rising to =A3185 next year

Ah the extra weight that you never think. So about 500kgs including the
people. So Id have to make sure only to bring the skinny people on a wine
trip to France then, O but then who would drive it.

Too true John.
I find that when I have all 8 seats in mine filled, perhaps 450kg, the
difference in handling and braking is quite significant. It's a lot
more comfortable over the bumps though.
I've towed quite a way at a combined weight of about 5.5 tons and
progress is, shall we say, "stately". 6.5 tons would be "interesting",
and I think 50mph would be the absolute max safe speed.
I don't know about the RoI, but the UK customs clobber you if you bring
back more than 90 litres of wine/person, on the principle that it can't
be for personal use. I guess that limits a TLC to 3 or 4 people then!

Hi Christopher
They seem to be a little more understanding over here.
Maybe its because it takes 18 hours to get to France one way and then you
have about four hours to get loaded and away you go again.
Having to hire a cabin each way.
So its not something you would do too often because of the time and the
price which can be expensive unlike your little trips across the channel,
there and back in one day.
