Wet Floor Passenger Side!!!

Hy All,
I seem to think I've read somwhere about water ingress from the sunroof.
I can't remember where, but it must have been on one list or other and as I
know many of you are on other forums, I might as well ask the question on
here.
The truck is a 1997 1HD FT with factory fitted sunroof. I've looked, but
for the life of me I can't see any evidence of water entering at this point.
I don't suspect a leak on the heater system, as the the carpet only seems
to get wet after heavy rain, or washing.
It's hard to be sure, but it seems to be worse in the area of the door
pillar on the passenger side (again indicating the sunroof).
Door seals on the passenger side are good except for slight damage at the
top of the front passenger door probably caused by careless fitting /
removal of a roof rack by a previous owner.
I've tried the obvious, get in and look whilst the wife sprays water on the
car from a pressure wash, and I have seen the odd drop of warer when the
hose is passed over this area of the door seal but nowhere near enough to
account for the amount on / under the carpet.
Ideas anyone ? I'm sure some of you will have had similar experiences.
What's the remedy ?

Hey Mik
Where are you now, have you departed this green land yet.
I have a lead on the passenger side which has been there for quite some
time now. I found much like your self that it was hard to detect and a real
pain in the ---. I found that the water was/is coming in through the air
vent under the wipers. I dont know whats under there but it seems to have
its dry moments too but also very wet ones. Hope this helps you, if there is
any thing else let us know.

Morning Mik,
The two most common causes to water in the footwells is either blocked
drain holes on the sunroof or faulty windscreen seals.
If the drain holes in the either corner at the front of the sunroof get
blocked the water tends to flow down the inside of the headliner and
then down the A pillar into the footwell.
With the windscreen, if it has been replaced and badly fitted the seals
can let in water. You should either get it fitted properly or try
sealing it, but don't use standard glass tank style sealers since they
contain acetic acid that causes problems with paintwork, etc.

Hi All
I too used to get wet passenger foot wells and it turned out that the rear
sliding windows were leaking (the drainholes get blocked with crud) and the
water was running all the way from the rear compartment under the carpets to
the foot well and collecting there. How could it work this far forward?? I
live on a steep hill with a an equally steep driveway and park only nose
down otherwise the water pours in through the sunroof (hill too steep so it
misses the front drain holes when parked with the rear pointing downhill).
A nightmare anytime I need to work under the car, check oil etc......
leaned out drain holes and no more leaks.
I did inadvertently have the car resprayed last year (vandalised with paint
stripper all over the car big insurance claim and they were going to write
off the car as it was so expensive till I kicked up a fuss) and when they
pulled the windscreen they found it was rusting underneath the seals and
pushing the seals up and I guess if bad enough this also could have been
another way in for the water.

Hello Simon,
This is what I discovered too when I removed the sliding window rubber
seals. It's a common water ingress problem with the 80's, leading to
rustting and even more leaking.
