What to do about this?

I'm having to do the same (only worse) on my '100' and I'm curious as to the approach taken by the professional.

I have both MIG & TIG welders and am planning on cutting out the old wing such that the hole is 10mm smaller than the repair panel. I'll then 'jiggle' the panel edge such that it fits behind the existing bodywork to give a double-layer of steel to weld to - leaving the panels flush ( HA ! who am I kidding). I'll probably MIG it.

Then grind back, prime, fill & paint.

As the saying goes - "Grinder & Paint make me the Welder I ain't" .

I wouldn't attempt a butt weld on thin metal as I know I'll produce holes.

So what did the Professional do ??

Bob.

I haven't been standing over his shoulder, but there's no overlap on the patch, just fitted to the hole. Patch then butt welded in with a mig.

@BobMurphy I have a few more pics from the welder, not sure if these help?

Looks butt welded to me.

That's a very nice job - well done to the Pro'.

I need more practice, a LOT more practice  .

For anyone near Manchester I can recommend him.

I'm pretty blown away that there is no filler in that, it's all metal.
