Crickey Chas,I was camped down in the high country of the North Island one late autumn night, had to drive a Leyland Beaver arctic tanker leaving about 6 in the morning for about 200 miles and when I started her up the windscreen was iced up.No windscreen washers in those days so to save a walk of about200 yards, thought okay I'll hang my head out of the door and when I get to the local garage 2miles away I'll wash the screen with their hose.Their hose was frozen, everyone still tucked up in bed so I had to scrape it of with a screwdriver.Never got caught again.
