A lake land jaunt for a Colorado and the 120 twins! belonging to Gary and Andrew.
Unfortunately the 110 landrover couldn’t join us at last minute, due to the drivers wife falling ill. She seems to be recovering well thank goodness.
The group assembles at Tebay and air-down the tyres before heading to the first lane of day.
Climbing up the first lane, a lot of repair work has been done recently, so its not tricky anymore. Low cloud meant no views…
First of the tight gateways of the weekend
Descending to ford
Ford shallow
Stepping stones uncovered, making gate closing easier
A couple of easy BOATS to follow after lots of gates on a small road…
Tight squeeze
Lane in the fields
And onto another lane that has recently been repaired after flood damage
Climbing the pass
And descending after turning around at the locked gate
Only have this photo of the next lane, but a few video clips. Its also been repaired recently, but rock slabs much harder than they were in May
After night at lovely pub/hotel in Hawkshead with young “Ness” serving our food and beer, we headed out towards Coniston
Some slabs to wake the suspension up
Nice autumn colours on this trail
And more slabs
A tippy slab
And the 2[SUP]nd[/SUP] twin coming down
This slab looked hard to drive up, but the landcruiser didn’t slip at all
And Andrew is up
Heading down towards Quarrys
Digging out the torches before heading into old quarry
Lots of flooded tunnels in here, which divers use !
A deep pool
Mountaineering skills required to get out
And time for a brew
Southern lakeland
That favourite sign, Isle on Man in the distance. The boys noticed that our mobiles had connected to the MANX mobile network.
A nice long lane with views of the sea
A few washouts
The collie leads the way
And one of the twins leads back up again after turning around at the end of the lane
And up onto the moor
Nuclear powerstation!
Sheep!
Coniston water and the Old Man beyond
And the fun begins.. Ben reminded me I hadn’t driven this lane yet! So it was a must.
ATRAC on the twin trucks and rear axle locker on the collie made this easy
a group of mountain bikers looking puzzled and surprised as we started up the lane, then they smiled and AndrewT heard them say “They are Toyota’s”
The 120 has no issues
Collie about to crawl down the dropoff
Dusk comes early up here in November
Turn around to go back down
120 flexing its springs
And down
And down last tricky bit
And through the tight lane
Last lane before it gets dark
AndrewT on the axle twister
Bit of angle there
The great pub Andrew found for us to stay in – much better than camping in frosts at this time of year
Interesting chap!
4 real ales on tap J
First lane on frosty morning, before an orange kankku landrover
coming down the lane EAST to WEST i.e. the wrong way spoilt things..
And this happened due to maneuvering to let landrover past
My hi-lift gets its first use
And soon we are away again
Sticking to the correct line, not the off piste section some drive
Tippy bit
Team photo with Skiddaw beyond with a dusting of snow
Bum shot
And on the last lane before 5hr drive home
Nice high and remote lane with good views
There were some puddles, but Garys wallowpit had been filled in and repaired very well J
And last one, of the 120 still keeping up with the 90 J
Thanks guys for an excellent long weekend away!
