Hi Everyone

I’m Aidan, in Wicklow, Ireland. I don’t have a landcruiser just yet - am currently in the market for an 80 series. I had a vintage g wagon with an om606 engine swapped in and moved away to a discovery 4. Looking to get back into something more old school and the 80 series was by far the best of anything I have driven.

Currently looking at a grey 1992 4.2 diesel in Waterford that is on DoneDeal. Does anything in Ireland know it? (Was in NI until last year or so too). Anything in particular I should look out for? Hoping to get a mechanic to look it over due to faint diesel smell under bonnet and turbo amber light constantly on (I assume electrical?) https://www.donedeal.ie/vintagecars-for-sale/toyota-landcruiser-amazon-1992/35897989

Thanks

Aidan

Hi Aiden and welcome.

(I assume electrical?) don't assume anything ever.

Truck could be good, or not good. After all it's 32 years old but as its an import and not seen 32 winters.

Only a detailed inspection by someone who knows 80 Cruisers will give you a definitive decision on if its any good or a money pit.

Hi Aidan,

That one looks nice but if you had the patience to wait maybe six months you could get a much lower mileage one from Japan, for the same money (on the road in Ireland.) Post-May 1993 have better rear hubs; and rear discs rather than drums.

Regards,
Fergal.

Hi Guys
Thanks for the responses. I had looked at bringing in from Japan alright but I can’t wait the time involved because the LR4 will be gone soon and will need jeep.

I managed to get someone to look this one over and have agreed a deal on it. Looking forward to getting my hands on it.

Is there any sort of a community in Ireland? And anyone know where to get a good front bumper, even OEM. It has a goodwinch one on it that I really don’t like. (I’ll look in forums but if anyone has anything to hand)

Thanks

Aidan

Its got plenty of fresh black paint on it, and shiny shit all over the engine bay.

Hi Aidan,

Best of luck with it! If there's a 80 series community in Ireland then I haven't discovered it yet (but I'm new.) I'm keeping an eye out for a mechanic experienced in them.

Maybe the people who put on fancy bumpers try to sell the originals? EBay, DoneDeal, etc. might have something. Or the specialist companies that modify them for overland, etc.

Fergal.

Cheers Fergal
I am in Enniskerry so if I find a good mechanic I will let you know - assuming you are in Dublin based on your profile name!

I have had Hamiltons auto electricians in town do work on g wagon and discovery and they are brilliant if you ever need electrics anyway.

There is an 80s WhatsApp group and a FB 80 group (less busy than UK ones). I'm in Athenry with petrol 97 model on LPG
