Turbo cutting out at when accelerating hard LC90 3.0TD

could be the rubber pipe that feeds the wastegate actuator on the turbo, if that fails then the turbo builds more and more pressure until the ECU cuts in to stop it destroying the engine!

    90 as a overland truck

The colorado's are as capable as a standard defender off road (if the rear diff locker is working!) they can be a bit scarier though because the front axle doesnt articulate nearly as well as a defender, you kind of rock around a bit more! The ground clearance isnt quite as good and the approach...

    90 as a overland truck

I've got a '01 d4d 95 that I've modified for overland trips, done a few thousand miles around Europe with a rooftent on top & never had any problems, mines a manual which I think puts less stress on the cooling system. I used to have defenders for overland vehicles and I have to say although the...

    Play in the steering column

Found the culprit, the collapsible part of the steering rod, some sort of safety feature to stop it hitting you in the chest in an accident, has developed some play, only very slight but by the time its at the steering wheel its quite noticeable. Managed to shim out with very thin piece of steel...

    Automatic or Manual

Im not sure what the official mpg figures are for auto vs manual but i think its generally about 10% better with a manual, that does of course depend how you drive it 8-) Ive not driven an auto 90 off road so its hard to compare the two but i had a V8 auto defender years ago and that was pretty...

    Automatic or Manual

Ive got a manual because i use it for a bit of heavy towing (3.5ton trailer) which can overheat the auto box but my dads got an auto that he uses to tow his caravan & he's never had a problem, in fact he bought it new in 1999 and since then, aside from normal service items hes only had to...

    Play in the steering column

No the rack bushings have already been done, the play is between the steering wheel & the rack. Ill try and get the wheel off tomorrow so i can get a look at the column, the play seems to be within the height adjustment part of the steering column, i presume theres some sort of UJ type joint in...

    Play in the steering column

Ive got a bit of a clonk in my steering which seems to coming from some play inside the steering column, laying in the footwell holding the steering rod as it goes through the bulkhead i can turn the steering wheel freely about 10mm in either direction without the steering rod moving and theres...

    New member with some Q's

The knock at the front end could be one of the many bushings: steering rack bushings, anti roll bar bushings/droplinks, shock bushings, suspension arm bushings. Best to get underneath and see if any of them are obviously worn. Check the steering & suspension arm ball joints as well.

    Timing Belt change on 3.0D4d

I did the timing belt on my d4d colorado a couple of months back. Easiest timing belt ive ever changed!! The only problem i came across was pulling back the hydraulic tensioner but i was replacing it anyway so i just slid the old belt off of the top pulley & removed it then unbolted the old...

    Programming a new keyfob

It turns out that the key i got with the car is the valet key which cannot be used to program new keys. Because i only have the valet key Toyota cannot supply me with a replacement key without replacing the alarm ecu as well at a ridiculous cost! So my next question is can i permanently bypass...
