My near side rear ARB mount has gone! I thought the truck felt a little more tippy than normal. I was then looking at the back of the truck and noticed the ARB wasn't quite straight, got underneath and found this....

:wtf:

My local 'fabricator' has said he is happy to sort it but asked if I could provide any pictures of how the original mount looked. I've had a good Google search and looked through the FSM but can't find anything any good.

Would anyone have a picture or be able to take one so I can provide some idea of how the mount is supposed to look? Any help would be much appreciated :thumbup:

Hi Lorin

I'll post some pics for you. Is it both sides of the rear ARB? If not let me know. I'll wait to hear before I take pics.

Hi Frank,

It is just the near side ARB. The other is still intact. Thank you :thumbup:

Lorin, I really hate to say this, but to me it looks like you are missing more than just the stirrup bracket. I'm going outside to check now! These things play tricks in your mind, but isn't there a sort of box that the stirrup bolts to? The DS ones are open to the elements but the PS ones are closed inside something. You can't get to the threads to spray them.

It's probably just a weird angle.

Cheers Chris,

Yep you're right. You can see in my pictures that the stirrup bracket is actually still there, albeit bent right back but that there is a large chunk of something missing where the loose end would have bolted to. Luckily Toby had a spare stirrup, so with a few pictures I'm hoping I can get the missing bit replaced.

Hi Lorin, the axle does rot away unseen in that box cavity that the ARB bolts to;

This was my axle upside down and poked n prodded etc;

and this was the repair, yes easier with the axle off the truck but not impossible;

Hope this helps and if you need a couple of poly bushes let me know, can chuck 2 in the post if ya want.

Chris5 that is a huge help thank you. Your repair is pretty much what I need doing and those pictures show it nicely. Cheers for the offer on the bushes, I grabbed some new ones earlier today so all sorted :icon-biggrin:

Okay Lorin, seems you're fairly well sorted then, that shiney new plate had 2 x M8 nuts welded to the back face prior to welding to the axle, obviously a bit of 'near enough' measuring took place to get the new holes somewhere near where the originals were.

Good luck with your repairs and some 'all done' pics would be nice. :thumbup: Cheers..

It still astounds me how much rust you guys in the UK suffer with. That is amazing.
Salty roads hey.

Not every vehicle is like that of course, but some are real shockers yes.

That would be true Chris, but the best 80 I have seen structurally is that old battered " Silver Phoenix" off roader. The body/ chassis condition is remarkable.

You're right Andy. It really was a smasher. Probably due to the fact that it stood in someone's garden for 8 years without turning a wheel. Find a decent shell, nick that chassis and you could make a stunner. Cleaned off with your steamer it was in better condition than my overlander.
