Removing plastic retainers?

Hi guys,

Am about to install a snorkel on my KZJ90.

How do I go about removing the wheel arch liner plastic retainers?

I've tried prizing the front of them off but they're really old and are cracking and snapping off.

Any thoughts?

I bought a load of new ones when I fitted snorkel to my hilux. The vehicle was nearly new and these clips still broke. Easier to just fit new, rather than trying to save them

Yes your lucky if they come out in one piece. new is the way forward.

Are these the type where the Centre is a pin that expands the outer when inserted?

I've found that they disintegrate if you try try to force them out, but if you can get a small screwdriver under the Centre pin and extract it from the outer, they just fall out and can often be re-used.

Looking at the photo, the Centre part does look like a separate piece from the outer.

I thought this, there even seem to be two screwdriver slots one opposite the other to lever the centre out. Plastic rivets I think they are.

yes you can get a screwdriver either side depending on room. but i found the head just sheared off most times. they are cheap to buy so just get a bag off them before starting.
