Much like France, people just out to have a bit of fun and it all gets cut short by some idiot with a cause.

Nothing much one can say to the people affected. :(

Such a sad loss of life. America has it's own brand of crazies

Agreed! Very tragic!

Sadly we all know this wont be the last mass shooting in the US or the last islamic terrorist attack!

Unfortunately it can happen anywhere no matter how vigalint we are.

what are your thoughts on the Christian/right wing fundamentalist murder of MP Jo Cox?

aren't you stretching it a bit blaming all the Christians.I don't go to church but I would class myself as a Christian and there are a lot like me who may get
pissed off with some folks but don't resort to violence.

No different to the islamophobic posts which seem to be getting more regular. Extremism is prevalent in all religions

I've copied this from another forum - as I couldn't have put it better myself.

I think the situation is very interesting. I also think it's being manipulated to the hilt. The shooter was a mentally ill homophobe who went into a nightclub and slaughtered 50 gay people while maiming many others as a response to seeing men kissing.

He pledged allegiance to ISIS. This doesn't make him an Islamic terrorist any more than pledging allegiance to god made David Berkowitz a Christian terrorist or any of the other lunatics who have allied themselves with any of their various deities as an excuse for psychotic behaviour. Vocal affiliation with religious/terrorist groups doesn't necessarily make you an agent for them.

I think this was a hate crime.

I also think that the "revelation" that this individual felt an allegiance to ISIS was f*cking convenient. Particularly considering the current swell of anti LGBT hate in America. It means that the likes of Cruz who can stand on stage next to a preacher condemning homosexuals to death, misery and hellfire without opening his mouth, and indeed clapping after such a speech can soundbyte about his "prayers" and fighting "terrorists".. And the likes of Trump can crow about Islam and receive "congratulations" about being "right" while attacking Obama over the safety of the nation where IS is concerned.

The biggest coup of all is that if you describe this as terrorism, you avoid the inconvenience of having to address the American bête noir - gun control.

As an observer, I find it a bit sickening that the gay slaughter element of the attack is being eroded in favour
of the 'comfortable' fallback of religious terrorism. Because accepting that this attack was directed at the homosexual community would mean that some of the folks legislating against the LGBTC and attacking it without remorse just might have to reflect on their beliefs and their actions.

This pretty much sums it up in one picture........

my post was intended to be ironic in tone Pat , so no I don't think this attacker represents Christianity. This individual may have been disturbed but for some time now sections of the UK media have fed the population a constant diet of fear and loathing about immigration & the perceived threat if "Islamic terrorism" - indeed some of my English speaking Spanish friends are baffled as to why the Britain are obsessed with immigrants.as a thought experiment imagine that you are in Germany in the 1930s & replace the word immigrant , Muslim or Islamic with Jew in the news that you are reading.....

Peoples ignorance surrounding islam baffles me!

You only have to look at how many islamic countries routinely execute homosexuals, for being gay to see that this is an evil ideology that is full of hate and intolerance!

islamic state can justify all the evil they do by what is written in the koran and the hadiths, including regularly throwing gays from buildings and then stoning them!

Personally I dont have a problem with muslims, the vast majority of them are peaceful, loving, good people. Its islam I object to and what it teaches and commands!

It really needs to be reformed to bring it into this century, but to do that would be to insult their mighty prophet, so I very much doubt we will see that anytime soon, as we all know what happens to people who insult their prophet! :|

As for MP Jo Cox, that is terribly sad and my heart goes out to her family and the hurt they must be feeling! :icon-cry:

What ever motivated that evil man to murder her, I'm sure he wasnt following the orders of imans or some religious text, which the Orlando terrorist could well have been! :icon-neutral:

It's a terrible thing that happened to Jo Cox but i thought this must surely result in some introspective speculation at the highest levels of government , then last night on the news i seen caMoron stamping his foot and pointing his finger shouting you VILL respect and admire us the untouchables and i thought to myself why oh why didn't somebody shoot him instead .

the concept of evil is pretty old fashioned Ben & often used to explain away uncomfortable truths.Islam is not monolithic & the interpretation of the Koran is wide & varied & certainly does not have the monopoly on hatefull ideas. Many Islamic countries are autocratic if not outright dictatorships often supported by the west & do not speak for their citizens. What concerns me is the polarisation of opinion , the feedback loop of mutual hate & ignorance that some politicians are happy to whip up , to manipulate a fearful population.
