No, not a hairdressers Spitfire this colour was used for photo reconnaissance at sunset and sunrise, when the clouds took on a pinkish hue and made the plane completely invisible against them. This one with D Day markings.

Lovely.

No, not said in a camp hairdresser way, I mean, lovely

We are so lucky where we live to have one or more Spitfires doing aerobatics over the fields nearby and flying around. They do trips alongside from Goodwood. The sound of the Merlin engine is so evocative.

Brilliant.

Undoubtedly an incredible aircraft in it's day with a pre war racing pedigree but the aircraft that has always pushed my buttons is the DH98 Mosquito with two Merlin engines. The fastest aircraft on the planet when it was released and probably one of the most versatile. Image_C_A_classic_view_of_the_De_Havilland_Mosquito.jpg

One of mine too. I was living in a flat near Elstree Airfield/Film Studios when they were filming "633 Squadron". Spitfires and Mozzies flying around all day - pure joy .

It was a tragedy when the last flying one in the UK crashed a few years ago :icon-cry:.

Bob.

Do you know when it crashed? I thought I saw one recently on TV in a fly past but maybe it was an old film.

I believe Kermit Weeks of Fantasy of Flight in Florida USA wants to restore a mosquito he owns to flying condition and there is one flying in the US that was restored in New Zealand.
