No, not a hairdressers Spitfire this colour was used for photo reconnaissance at sunset and sunrise, when the clouds took on a pinkish hue and made the plane completely invisible against them. This one with D Day markings.
And made of wood.Undoubtedly an incredible aircraft in it's day with a pre war racing pedigree but the aircraft that has always pushed my buttons is the DH98 Mosquito with two Merlin engines. Do you know when it crashed? I thought I saw one recently on TV in a fly past but maybe it was an old film.It was a tragedy when the last flying one in the UK crashed a few years ago.
