hi Craig
I also used import my car. They just did the paper work. It wasn’t that fast but it all worked fine. Memory is it cost about £200.
meanwhile i drove the car over from Belgium on “garage” plates (so it was insured) and parked it on my drive. IIRC I had to get an MOT ONLY after they...
I am sure your brake works produced good results. But I have never had issues with brakes on the 78, unlike the 80 where they start to fade on long downhill runs and sometimes feel a little weak given weight of a loaded truck.
Were your 78 brakes a concern before your works? Cheers
+1 for the route Please.
Am thinking of a west coast Ireland and into N. Ireland trip this summer.
So did you conclude
1. More fun following small coast roads you found rather than the Wild Atlantic Way? And,
2. Better off finding camping sites as you went rather than relying on apps...
What a great write up and terrific project.
Really nice to see it all in one place at one time rather than watching it real time as you build it.
I have done something similar with my Troopy although yours is a bigger project. (I ought to do a similar write up. Just off to Algeria on a trip...
Funnily enough i have had exactly this issue on my 80 recently and also not using it as much as I used to. So will also follow the recommendations. cheers
Ok played around today with rear doors not closed or rear wheel not secured, car in drive gear etc but could not get that light on again. So pretty much out of ideas.
I might try to send it to a Toyota dealer and see if they know it.
Yea it does. Ok will play with the wheel a bit in next few days. Just got back from a 1300 mile drive from Marrakesh so prob won’t make it to the car again Til Tuesday.
Thanks everyone for your help. A bit worrying to have a red warning light so far from home
Thanks Dave I found a similar diagram on the web but it doesn’t include the one I have.
I have just posted a photo in place of my drawing from the road.
So the instrument cluster was changed at some point from km to mileage. I wonder if a petrol dash was put in and that has come from a car with a catalytic converter ??
Yes I have never seen / noticed it before. My car is an import and I suppose that might make a difference.
If it comes on again tomorrow I will try to take a photo
And I have no catalytic converter fitted.
Sorry was high speed post at a short break driving in a convoy.
I am in a TLC80 doing about 70mph on a dry motorway, steady speeds.
I don’t think it’s traction control. I wish it was an emergency bacon sarnie!!
It is not shown in the owners manual I have but I got that after the car so they...
It’s on lower left hand side of row of warning lights. Came on flickering when I was driving a long drive. Not in my manual. (Excuse the drawing I am on the road)
Many thanks
I was wondering if it makes sense to start a thread for UK owners of 75s and 78s. I don’t know how many we are in total and how many are on this forum. Would be good to know.
I think we may have some questions / issues (that can be different from those 80# etc) and would be good to compare...
Scott sorry I am not sure if I understand. Your VD79 already had intermittent ? Or you had to fit it?
if your truck didn’t have it then I guess in addition to the new stalk you had to make some changes to a relay or is it all inside the stalk? Sorry if these are basic questions. Cheers.
As you owners of older 75s/ 78s know well there are not many mod-cons on these trucks. One “luxury” I would really like to retro fit is an intermittent setting on the wind screen wipers. Factory standard is slow and a smidge faster.
Has anyone retro-fitted an intermittent wiper system? Is it...
Ooh I have to respond to you Higgy - I have the suit that Ed Hlary wore when he was knighted. It was lent to him by my grand father and he left it to me . They were the same lanky shape!
Here is the design plan - is this what you wanted or actual pictures of the set up?
I have a water tank of about 90L inside the vehicle. And in the end i didnt do the return circuit from the filter back to the tank.
hi Jude
yes it would be helpful to chat directly - probably most efficient by phone. I will pm you.
And yes I am in touch with Martin. He is very helpful and we are already considering switching to Baltimore (same cost even though it is further than Halifoax) in part to allow us to get quotes...
Thanks Gr8Yota - yes you are right that a longer trip would be better. This is subject to intense negotiations with the mrs. More on this later....
Yes you are right on container pricing. I had filled in some detailed on line quote forms and the prices came back quite reasonable. But when i...
Like Andy CGL above I had something similar on my 80. Definitely window out and was worse underneath. on the plus side that was done about 4 years ago and still looks like new. So if you get someone to do a good job it is very effective and certainly less than buying a replacement tailgate...
