IS removing a 80 rear diff from axle like in this video the same procedureas 90 series?

The rear axles on an 80 and 90 are completely different beasts. But stripping either isn't that difficult. We had to do mine in the field when I blew the rear diff to pieces at Lincomb one year. Any rear diff drop is the same process. Prop, half shafts, flange case nuts. If you ended up with a...

    Diff rebuild /ratios for 1997 80 series 1hdft

Well the cheap test is just to try it, isn't it, Whack on some 35's and go for a drive. The difference isn't that great. Plenty of people here put 35's on stock autos and they've not struggled. My manual is on 35's and auto diffs, yes and it's great to drive, but I had the diffs on the shelf and...

    Diff rebuild /ratios for 1997 80 series 1hdft

With a manual of course, towing and ratios are far less important. Just don't change up so early!

    Diff rebuild /ratios for 1997 80 series 1hdft

Having a couple of diffs on the bench does mean that you're not off the road whilst you do them.

    Diff rebuild /ratios for 1997 80 series 1hdft

Well the first thing that you need to know is that a rebuild will require parts that will be differnt to the originals, most namely, shims. I have a shim library that I have built up so when I do a diff, I can swap in what's needed. If you don't have those then you'll have to measure what's...

I thought so too but I took Nick at his word being a 24v battery.

    Jump starting a 12v from a 24v

Well it all depends how you do it Nick. You say that you had a 24v battery? It's not something I'd suggest doing every morning, but in a clinch, what choice do you have. Probably better that your battery was flat. I'd imagine that it acted a soak of some kind to absorb that. As a battery it's...

    Advice on posting here

Stick to the facts and what can be proven. It's a free country. I'd defend their right to a reply perhaps, but they're probably not going to take up that offer. I'd urge all participants not to fall into the trap of fundamental attribution bias where you think you know better than those involved...

Orange diff light . How do turn I it off please

Are you hearing any buzzing at all or a click when you press the button in or out? Do this with ign on but no engine running. Just helps us to work out what's going on.

Orange diff light . How do turn I it off please

Yes South side of Chesterfield. You won't see my Amazon anwhere around at the moment. You might see an electric blue Hilux if I have to go to Milner though. Higgy's right, back and forth normally cures it, but if it's driving round tight bends OK then it might just be the detent switch that is...

Orange diff light . How do turn I it off please

Have you tried pressing the button again to turn it off? It sounds like the centre diff lock button which effectively locks up the variable output box between the front and rear props. If you've pressed it again but the light hasn't gone off, it should do once you start driving around.

Put a Redarc in the Hilux last month. Been fine, seems to condition the batteries a bit better than the old thing. But no having issues with solar input. It was working but now it's not. I'll look when I can be bothered.

    Access to rear suspension tops?

Please don't do that. Just use a recip saw and cut the tops off below the bracket. Don't cut the actual damper body, just the spigot with the nut on. It's the way. We've seen countless suggestions on how to do this and then when peeople realise they're missing the obvious ...

Recommendations for a garage / person to complete a diff regear

Best option on re-gearing for what you want really is just to pop in a pair of auto diffs, Rear diffs very solid rarely need work and front diffs can be sorted fairly easily including new ring and pinion here in the UK

    ABS Faults

The diagnostics on these are not that advanced and it may only be one fault causing the others to read an error. I'd start with open circut. Pull all the plugs and give a good clean. There one ones on the sender, there are ones on the axle and at the front there is one in the inner wing against...

Recommendations for a garage / person to complete a diff regear

You don't really need 4.88 to fit 35's really. I was running 37's on 4.56 and they were perfect, especially if it's a manual. Auto diffs staight swapped into a manual will give you perfect ratios for 35's. The pnly source that I know of 4.88s is Just Diffs in the states and bring them over and...

    Receiver tow bar availability?

Can't disagree with any of that but let's not forget, 'cos it's easy to lose sight of this - the tow ball is only held on with two bolts. So regardless of style, design, modification etc etc, the weakest point is likely to be the two old re-used rusty bolts. And reality is that you don't see...

    Handbrake dogbone/spacer

The dog bones take up slack in the system, but not I'd suggest wear in the drum face. What they do moreover is change the alignment of the shoe inside the drum. This has all been explained before but in short, once any part of the show hits the drum, it feels like the brake is on. Well it it...
