For my '93 I fitted(double check of course as these came back from OZ a few years ago):
Toyota 4504469115
Toyota 4504569065
Toyota 4504669135
Toyota 4504769085
Dave.
Not just a roughtrax issue.Previously replaced all the ball joints with 'made in japan' items from Milner.Noticeable unwelcome play in 3 out of the four within a year. Straight to the bin with them, OE jobies been in the last 3 years, no more worries.Dave.
Just as an update, I just ordered a new valve off Amayama Japan for £13 +p&p.
Even if get hit with import duties(unlikely) will still work out way cheaper than the near £50 in the UK.
Wasn't going to bother with it as rarely use the lamp washers but something not working started bugging me...
Unfortunately Chris I have the sound/heat bonnet pad thingy clipped back on or would check the tube size.
Can't seem to get those PITA clips out without busting them.
The barb on the nozzle is about 6mm so reckon 4mm would be a good fit.
Dave.
Hi all,
I had noticed that the force of the windscreen wash was steadily getting worse over time to were it barely made it over the blades.
Thought maybe the pump was on its way out but went for the cheapest option first.
Pulled the jet nozzles apart, soaked in vinegar and blasted with air...
For me, it was more to do with thinking you are paying for quick DHL delivery when in fact it goes DHL Germany->Parcelforce Heathrow-> RM and then who knows where.
Then having a customer service robot in Parcelforce telling me yesterday it would definitely be here today.
No mention 2 months ago...
RM really are a useless bunch of wan**** along with DHL Germany.
Been tracking brake parts coming from Germany with DHL.
All going nicely until landed UK yesterday and find out DHL hand them to Parcelfarce at Heathrow. WTF??
Phoned Parcelfarce yesterday to confirm will be with me today as...
Yeah Clive, don't like having anything not working on the wagon but Mr T is having a laugh.
Thinking can be little more than a ball and spring in there.
Might have a hunt around local scrap yard and see if can find something suitable.
Turning it around Julian is much better temp solution than...
Hi all,
Went to use the windscreen wash wipe yesterday and no spray. Nowt.
Bottle completely empty. Thought I must have been a lazy **** and hadn't topped it up.
Then same thing today. So went hunting thinking one of the hoses split but all good.
Nope, emptying out through one of the headlight...
Changed out the rear gearbox rubber support mount.
Mine literally fell apart in my hands when remove the cross member.
Dead easy job and worth doing if have an 80 with decent miles on it.
Full brake overhaul next. Should be fun.:wtf:
Dave.
Yeah Clive, to be honest never heard of anybody extending hoses for mild 2.5" lift but those frame to axle lines have got me thinking.
For peace of mind more than anything else I am going to stick the frame up on some high stands and see how stretched these hoses look, if at all.
Thanks for the...
Cheers fellas.
Think I will have a good look at those middle hoses before ordering as still put the old wagon through some decent off-roading.
Adjusting bump stops is something else I hadn't bothered with. Looks like busy new year coming up.
Dave.
Cheers Chris, never thought there would be an issue with 2" lift until seen the kits being sold with extended lines for it.
Never even thought to look at the upper ABS flex hose when put the lift in.
Will just go with the standard length kit.
Dave.
Hello all,
In the process of gathering bits and bobs for upcoming brake overhaul.
Was about to pull the trigger on stainless brake line kit to suit my 93'.
The ABS kit comes with seven hoses then noticed that in OZ they offer kits to suit 2" lift which got me thinking.
The pic in EPC for ABS...
about half way down, some pics give idea of how it should look. I would get more than I need as will always use it for future top ups.
http://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/how-much-grease-in-the-knuckles.148234/
Suffice to say that it should NOT be totally filled.
Ok, I can tell you it does happen. I got full clutch kit off them. Faulty release bearing which meant paying labour again to drop gearbox and fit new bearing. They didn't want to know. You will also find parts purchased outside EU are not covered by Toyota here, not even for replacement.
Yes I...
Thanks for reply.
Unfortunately like all my DIY it is done lying on my back on a stone drive no engine lift available.
Still think I should be able to hoist one side at time with a jack and some carefully placed blocks.
Bit redneck but hey...
Regarding the mounts, I brought back a pile of...
Hello All,
Quick question.
Thinking about making the next job on the list swapping out the Engine and Gearbox mounts.
The Gearbox mounts are looking every bit their age. Thinking engine ones probably no better.
The Gearbox seem straight forward. Support Gearbox, remove cross member and...
This is really quite a straight forward job(if not a tad messy) with any amount of support on this site.
I'm no car mechanic, bikes are my thing but lots of 80 jobs are DIY.
Working on your car yourself is the best way to get to know it and labour ££ saved can be put to extra goodies.
You will...
Dave,
I've also been looking at options for a full brake overhaul.
You can source DBA through euro4x4 but at 200 each its too pricey for me:
http://www.euro4x4parts.com/toyota_parts/landcruiser_series_80/hdj80_4_2td_12v_diesel_1990_1995/2_brakes/J/brake_discs_high_performance_dba
Though think...
I've been looking at a set of these from JV. I do a lot of play in a local quarry so wanted something heavy duty attached to chassis rails.
Think he can also do up a set of more heavy duty traditional style side steps if not wanting the full on sliders...
Cheers Dave for the 101 4wd explanation. Helped clear up some confusion. Being an early 80 I've no VC and by permanent I was meaning full time as opposed to selectable part time set up I had in an old Patrol.
Could be wrong but pretty sure the old owners manual describes never have the car...
Must admit I am more concerned now with how they conduct these brake tests.
Surely putting a perm 4 wheeler on a rolling test can not be good.
Having either set of wheels rotating while others are stationary has to be bad.
Can guarantee the tester doesn't put the transfer box into neutral as...
Yep Clive. Financial pain involved but worth it.
Do highly recommend checking the condition of both bearings before fitting.
New does not always mean fault free as I found out!
Dave.
Don't know what the rolling test machines are like in the mainland but the new stuff they have over here have different 'modes'. One is specifically for perm 4 wheel drives as I watched him selecting it.
Can agree with Dave that pulling the calipers might have helped but there is no way my...
That's now a great deal of difference from OE clutch price Clive.
Pretty sure that was the original in mine with 200k+ on it and was still holding out, so reckon worth the dosh if plan on keeping the cruiser for a while.
Guess the money saved with the heavy duty kit could go towards some other...
Thanks for all the replies fellas. Much appreciated as usual. Greet forum as always.
I am now the proud owner of a new MOT certificate.
And what did I do to achieve such an award??? Bugger all.
I pulled the calipers to check no sticky pistons but all looked good, so put it back together and...
Really don't know what has gone on.
Looking at last years print out my imbalance on both axis <5% with 68% efficiency.
The MOT centres basically take the car off you and put through their machines with pass/fail at end.
You have little interaction with the testers and as they do not carry out...
Just had closer look at their printout and brake readings are all over the place compared to previous years:
Brake Effort Service Brake:-
Axle1 Nearside 3.59kN Offside 2.61Kn Imbalance 27%
Axle2 Nearside 3.77Kn Offside 2.69Kn Imbalance 29%
I find it odd they have imbalance on same side...
Yeah, new pads in a month ago and all seemed ok with the calipers when fitting them.
Was looking at last years printout and had 68% efficiency.
Only difference this year is the 35" MT which I am thinking might be too much rolling resistance weight for standard calipers and disks on their...
Just had my cruiser knocked back for the first time at the MOT. Gutted.
Have no idea how I am going to fix this one.
It failed on Service Brake Efficiency 44% needs >50%.
Never had any issues before so can only think it is all the extra weight that came with the new 35" MT tyres.
Tester...
Cheers Clive. New clutch was well worth the hassle.
I can understand what Dave is saying about customers sourcing their own parts and having hassle when get given the wrong one etc.. and I certainly wasn't expecting the garage to sort as not their problem.
What did surprise me was Toyota as a...
ok, so I need to wind my neck in and eat some humble pie. Release bearing replaced by garage and chirp problem gone. Seems even new OE parts can be less than average.
Checking the 'new OE' bearing that was replaced it is obviously not right. Leaves me wondering if these parts from overseas...
front or rear:
Front shown as a single piece on the EPC diagram 85150-60121 (double check this part# of course):
From ToyoDIY http://www.toyodiy.com/parts/p_E_199208_TOYOTA_LAND+CRUISER_HDJ80R-GNMEXW_8501.html?hl=85160
Rear 85170-60070.
Try Karl Webster on this forum for second hand parts.
Dave.
Yep, Simon is still very much doing the business and disserves support of everybody on this forum.
As mentioned in my 80 section thread, buying cheaper Toyo parts from overseas is fine until you get sent duff ones and then you are on your own.
Not such big problem with cheap parts but more of a...
Yeah had very bad judder that has been there the five years I owned the truck. Kinda learned to slip the clutch a bit on take off but got to the point where decided new clutch time. Now judder gone.
Wouldn't let my small issues put anybody off replacement.
Even with the trapped bird under my...
Just as an update for anybody else with similar noise issues with their new clutch.
I went ahead and replaced the slave cylinder with a new Aisin one as mine was looking well beat up.
Still have chirping but the Cruisers gear changes are now like new. Smooooth.
Ordered a new release bearing off...
Think I paid about £300 including postage for the kit.
Keep in mind that custom duties etc. are on top of that and as I mentioned in the original post, if any of the parts are defective you are on your own.
If I was doing it again I would price up using one of the UK discount guys on here...
I think Chris I would rather pay for a new slave than hand over more money to the garage to drop the box again and replace what I reckon is a perfectly good bearing.
Can't get my head round why this shows up when a new kit is fitted. Would have thought everything should be nice and tight and...
Thanks for replies fellas.Noticed there is also a section in the FSM for checking clutch pedal freeplay and booster air valve stroke.Worth a check anyhow.Quick google search shows lot of people with similar problems, some blaming release bearing some blaming no grease on the fork.Pain in the...
That is my gut feeling Chris. Buy new bearing, pay garage to drop the box again and no better. I can be well sure they did not grease up anything even though I gave them FSM printouts showing how.
Extending the cylinder rod is definitely worth a look. Going to get under the truck tomorrow and...
Yeah, so true. Too big a job lying on my driveway for me to tackle so no real option.
Really starting to think it could maybe be a problem with installation though near impossible for me to prove.
Looking at the FSM and this link, there should be some Lithium grease added to the fork and input...
Cheers.
This is the reason I hate getting my cruiser worked on by anybody else as can only take the garage at their word that it is a part problem and not their install.
Yeah, spraying anything in there would end in more problems.
Will pull the rubber boot and see if there is anything obvious...
Probably like a few others on here, I sometimes get parts from Amayama.
Bought a clutch kit from them which I had recently installed but the throw out bearing failed within a couple of days.
Toyota in the UK don't want to know as bought outside the EU and unknown to me Amayama will only stand...
Oi, sod off my thread!:obscene-buttsway:
This thread should help with part numbers:
http://www.landcruiserclub.net/forums/showthread.php/53830-HDK-C-V-joints?p=416112#post416112
Definitely worth fitting the later style CV and longer drive shaft flange.
Guess you could jack up one side at a...
