    Rear diff strip down

Today, whilst waiting for other items to be delivered, I removed the rear diff. to inspect and replace the pinion seal. We need to go back nearly 3 years......The truck threw the rear propshaft. at 60mph whilst driving down to the docks to ship the truck to America for our 2+ year trip, I...

    Tourque settings

Thanks for all the replies. The vacuum gauge arrived today, so tomorrow I will conclude the test. I have 'Gas leak detector' spray which I find easier to apply. I may also increase the torque setting from the 12.5Nm. Yes, I will give feedback when strip the gearbox down, especially if it leaves...

    Tourque settings

The thread dia. is 6mm, though there is a neck down to 5mm! In the standard torque tables at 6mm the highest spec bolt is 12Nm in the Toy workshop manual at 18Nm. In fact the actual text says "Hollow screw: 18Nm(176kgf.cm,13 in.lbf). When there is a mistake with the inch lb value, it doesn't...

    Tourque settings

I am just fitting new(refurbished) injectors to a 24v engine. When it comes to fitting the fuel leakage pipe, the workshop manual says the torque is 18Nm and in the Ausi WM the torque is 12.4Nm the later seems appropiate for a small bolt. Does anyone know the correct torque and also torqued the...

    Not starting

If I 'crack' open the injectors at the head, I should be able to manually pump fuel out of them? or will it pump fuel into the head? I have changed the filter as it has not been change since driving in Bolivia and 6-8 pumps with the primer and the filter was purge of air. That seems to indicate...

    Not starting

Thanks Karl, I could rule out the tank pick up as the tank is full. Though the pipe from the tank and any joins be the cause. I will closely check the filter connections and also change the filter, its been a while since I changed it. When I do depress the primer it does firm up after being...

    Not starting

I thought I would start a new thread as the subject has changed. I had a leaking ASCD and has being slowly getting worse. The last 3 months it has been left in the drive. Recently I removed the ASCD to check to see how bad it is. It probably needs changing but I wanted to get the engine going...

    ACSD started leaking.

I have just remove the ACSD unit 'cold start' to replace the weeping 'O' ring on the spindle. After refitting it, the engine does not start! Do I need to bleed the system or will cranking the engine eventually clear the air out of the system? Stephen

    Handbrake position

I forgot that auto have a park position on the 'drive' stick. I was hoping that it would be reasonably easy to move the handbrake lever to under the dash board position. This would give more efficient use of the space between the seats for a secure box, something that would have been very useful...

    Handbrake position

I have noticed a depression on the plastic panel below and to the left of the steering wheel. It looks as though it could be a position of a handbrake lever. Do automatics have them in this position? can anyone shed light on this? Stephen

Rebuilding the 80 series front axle

I noticed the gap before getting the correct tension, but blindly followed the toyoya FSWM as gosple! You have to think why Toyota says this..... replacing swivel bearings

That is assuming that the previous owner / garage has not changed them. In my case there is a 5thou homemade brass shim on the bottom of each swivel.
