Handbrake position

I have noticed a depression on the plastic panel below and to the left of the steering wheel. It looks as though it could be a position of a handbrake lever. Do automatics have them in this position? can anyone shed light on this?

I think it was for the factory winch controls

I forgot that auto have a park position on the 'drive' stick. I was hoping that it would be reasonably easy to move the handbrake lever to under the dash board position. This would give more efficient use of the space between the seats for a secure box, something that would have been very useful on our last trip.
I think I will shelve this idea for the time being as I have a lot of work ahead of me getting the 80 back to expedition readiness. We have just completing a 85K 2 year journey from North America to South America and needs a total overhaul.
