Hard to start in the cold

Was having a poke earlier, I think the intercooler needs to come off to get at the glow plugs, anyone tried without or shall I just get it done?

Wow Mick, that's ridiculously clean for the age. My import scored 1.5 so you're doing better than me.

    Imported insurance

I had no problem adding my imported cruiser to my existing policy (Admiral), they didn't think it was a big deal. Might have been trickier with a LHD.

Hard to start in the cold

It turned over fine, for quite some time in fact. The battery health indicators are also still showing good. I think I'll have a poke at the glow plugs before splashing a couple of hundred or so on batteries.

Hard to start in the cold

No smoke that I saw. Starts on the button once warmed up a bit or in warmer weather. Good call on the glow plugs I've not checked them, the light comes on then goes off after a couple of seconds which suggests that the circuit is at least partly working. What's the easiest way to check if they...

Hard to start in the cold

Took the 90 out today and it was a real bugger to get started. I waited for the glow plugs and then tried to start, just turned over. After about 10-15 seconds it finally caught but then died a few seconds later. Another ~10 seconds of cranking got it going. It was a bit rough sounding for a few...

My JDM prado just has a key, I suspect they didn't have remote central locking.

Clutch slipping, how long do they last?

Not sure specifically on the LC, but 90k is about right for a clutch in general.

    CEL under hard acceleration

I was driving in the peak district last week, climbing out of Buxton on the A53 which is a long hill but a fast road. I had my foot down at maybe 40-50 mph and the CEL warning came up. I eased off and it went out after a minute or two. It's not come back on since. Any idea what's likely to have...

I'm having the same issue - mainly when hill climbing. I guess I need to check the fluid level.

    Scotland in the floods

A bit less exciting than Africa but I just got back from a few days in Galloway. We arrived just as the torrential rains arrived (amber warning the first day, yellow the others). At this point I was very glad I was in the 90 and not my car. First morning we left the place we stayed at (middle of...

Update on this, had the wheels rebalanced, turns out they were way off - one was 175g out of balance. Running smooth now. :)

Monday, not the best day ever.

I've only had one car written off and was given a low offer. Luckily I had gap insurance and they were happy with the offer which made the whole process a bit more straight forward.

The princely sum of 73 pence. It was from UK stock.

Mine is the 95/120 manual also, I got it from AbeBooks as it was much cheaper than amazon.

    Rear suspension torque settings

90 and 95 are the same torque as listed above. There's a haynes manual, it's not super easy to find as it was printed for the antipodean market, but they are available.

No real problems here, though I did happen to visit sainsbury's just as a tanker was unloading which helped.

    Rustproofing, updating methods and products.

I think the idea is that the sound metal will sink the heat from the laser while the rust will not and instead flashes to vapour. Probably takes a bit of dialing in of the power to get effective removal without etching the underlying metal.

    Rustproofing, updating methods and products.

I imagine you just plug them in. It's a 2000W laser so about the power of a small kettle. Front probably doesn't get that hot, though you might want gloves for splatter. Bigger issue is they're half a million for a high power unit like that, well out of reach.

I would expect to feel the road through brakes and steering, not have them float like a computer game. Modern cars often have too little feel.

    Leaking behind front wheel…

That's the ARB I think, which has no oil, so I would assume it's leaking from above that somewhere and working its way down.

If possible get a courtesy car while they have yours. Helps focus the attention as you're costing them then.

    Cold start - Fast Idle

My car revs to about 2500 rpm when it's really cold and runs mega late timing and valve overlap which makes it loud and throaty (sounds pretty cool, but essentially dumps fuel into the tailpipe). 1000 rpm is nothing. ;)

They don't need to save it, they have 100 litres in jerry cans and coke bottles to use up. ;)

You see it on petrol cars a lot to warm up the cat, I don't think diesels need the same warming up though.

Who is doing what maintenance today?

It's actually an early import - registered in the UK in 2001. I have no idea how it's stayed in such good condition on our roads for 20 years. Wheels were off, also brake lights out, various other trim pieces off for access. Process is basically: steam clean, any significant rust scraped off...
