    Rear mounting bushing location

Hi Steve, thanks so much for the advice, I finally found them; or didn't actually because they weren't there! That's why I was struggling to find them! I finally found the screw holes but no mounting bushes. The vehicle is 25 years old and I've had it for 10 years and I don't think I've ever...

    Rear mounting bushing location

Hi all, I've been having some thuds coming from the rear of my Colorado/Prado 95 recently. I noticed that the very rear mounting bushings were completely destroyed after 25 years so replaced them. Hoping desperately that the thuds would have stopped I was disappointed to hear they are still...

    Universal joint fitting challenge

So, I've just spoken to Roughtrax on the phone as I also saw that info on their website. They couldn't really explain why that U joint only fits the diff end but only explained that they don't sell one for the other end. They also said that for the cardan joint they usually advise the shaft is...

    Universal joint fitting challenge

As far as I know, through measuring & looking online they are both 29mm diameter caps. I fitted the same GMB in the rear end of the drive shaft a few years ago.

Ha! Never thought that would be suggested! Will definitely try it. I'm in a very hot climate (Zambia) but wouldn't have thought that the u joint would change that much. Have you tried that before?

    Universal joint fitting challenge

Hi all, I'm having a huge headache with trying to fit a new GMB brand UJT21 uni/ spider joint to the drive shaft. I've managed to remove the old one (Koyo) but the new one isn't pressing in. All the research I've done online through different shops & spec websites says the GMB code is right but...

Advise needed about air con re-gassing and oil top up

Thanks for the advice. The guys here are quite the opposite to 'specialist' and I'm sure they won't be able to remove the gas and weigh it. I think the term 'cowboy' comes to mind! That's why I try by all means to do all the work on the Prado myself where possible. I've had far more successes...

Advise needed about air con re-gassing and oil top up

Hi Ben, thanks for the little story, I do visit those cities lots and can imagine what it must have been like desperately hoping that the air-con would get cooler! Is there a way that I can test for any leaks myself? If so I would prefer to do that as things can get a bit chaotic when using...

Advise needed about air con re-gassing and oil top up

Hi all, I run a KZJ95 (1KZ-TE) Colorado/ Prado now on 260,000 miles in Zambia. When I imported it here almost 10 years ago from the UK I had the air-con re-gassed and until now it has been working wonderfully; not had to touch it once! Just recently it feels like at times it's not quite running...

    Possible Steering Pump Rebuild

I have a 90 series so it might not be the same for an 80 but have you checked the reservoir tank filter? On the 90 you can remove the reservoir tank, drain it and see the filter at the bottom. You can flush the tank & filter by spraying a can of carb cleaner through it which clears the gunk...

    What is this?....

Yes, you're right! Thank you Steve. Do you know if these have seals inside which can cause a low whining noise that I'm hearing?
  20. L

    What is this?....

Last year I removed the power steering pump and changed seals etc so it's not the pump I'm confused about but what's in front of it. Unless I'm mistaken and it's somehow related?
  21. L

    What is this?....

Thanks for the ideas. I forgot to mention that the whining can be heard when I press the accelerator in low revs. It's a low pitch, soft whining sound that follows the revs of the engine. I am planning to get a vehicle stethoscope or long screwdriver to detect where it might be coming from so...

Hi all, I'm still learning way around my Colorado/ Prado 95 series 1KZTE 3.0L diesel truck (1999 with 252,000 miles) so forgive me for this question as a non qualified 'mechanic'! I've just finished changing the water pump (including backing), timing belt (including tensioner & pulley) &...

    Radiator overheating

Really appreciate your advice, thanks so much.
  27. L

    Radiator overheating

It's a 1KZ-TE (3.0L diesel). That's interesting to know that it could potentially be uprated to 1.1. This is definitely a hotter area! Average daily temperature can be between 30-35°c. Would you recommend I keep the cap at 1.1 then or as mentioned earlier, could that potentially blow the hoses?

    Radiator overheating

Thank you so much for that advice. I'll get in touch with Toyota in Lusaka, there's a few branches and see if they can supply the right cap. Thanks also for the link to the spec website, that's really helpful! All the best

    Radiator overheating

Hi all, just another question which I think is really important regarding the same new radiator I fitted and the cap... My original Toyota radiator (UK import) had a cap rating of 0.9 kgf/cm (88kpa) but it didn't fit onto the new radiator which had a different housing design. The new radiator...

Thank you to both of you for the advice - I didn't want to leave it a then discover that more damage might happen going forward due to my ignorance. The new radiator didn't come with a cap so I temporarily bought a very cheap Chinese one to see me through (it is SO difficult to get anything...

    Radiator overheating

Hi everyone, my Land Cruiser Colorado/ Prado (95 series 1KT-TE) has finally succumbed to needing a new radiator after just passing 250,000 miles. the original one was in a state and was getting very hot on the radiator top where it eventually started to leak from. I had serviced it well over the...

    Rocker cover gasket replacement

Hi all, is looking like I need to replace my rocker cover gasket on my LC Colorado 3.0L diesel (1KZ-TE) as there's a huge amount of leaking around it. She's also been losing oil recently, requiring small top-ups every few weeks. She on 244,000 miles so she's done well to get this far I think...

    Lower control arm bushings

I would agree with Tractionman. I've fitted them to the panhard bar and the upper and lower trailing arms on my 90 series. They're firm but not too firm. Seem better than the original rubber ones and should hopefully last a long time. I was impressed with their quality and reputation and would...

    Power steering noise

Hi flint, thanks for the response. I'm just finishing off bleeding the full power steering system now by raising up the front end as you say and disconnecting the low pressure return line to bleed it out while turning the wheels fully. I'll take it for a test run and let you all know how it...

    Power steering noise

Zambia is certainly different from the UK but I maybe wouldn't describe it as exotic . Fun for driving in the different conditions though with the sand, mud and heavy rain seasons. Glad I brought this vehicle over! My vehicle has 236,571 miles on it. I'll give it a go with flushing the fluid...

    Power steering noise

Thanks AdventureWagon, the fluid in the reservoir seems pretty clean but could it be that the pump and lines have older/ dirtier fluid? Also is flushing it out a simple enough job?

    Power steering noise

Hi all, in the last few days I've started to get some low level groaning/ whining nose when turning the wheel and it seems to be getting slowly worse each day. I've checked the power steering reservoir and it's not losing fluid (or much at all as I only top it up a few fluids oz. every 3-6...

Hi all, thanks for all this insight, it's really helped! Last night I took to investigating the same rattle on my Colorado.
