    Turbo whine

That's good to know. Mine running fine since delete.... although she now needs a fuel tank..... the drop in fuel economy to 3km's/litre was a bit of a clue.........

    Turbo whine

Oh, and bodging the pipe did cure the turbo whine......
  3. Slartybart

    Turbo whine

On reflection.... it may well have passed the emissions test because half the exhaust crap was being diverted to the engine bay.... probably best not to mention that to the tester.......

    Turbo whine

I'm sure it does work, unless you have a crack in the pipe.... in which case I'm not so sure. Anyway, after a bodge job with goo, glue, a bit of aluminium sheet and a few clamps, mine passed its MOT this morning despite its cracked EGR pipe. (Phew!) I'll look again in the coming days and...

    Turbo whine

I had that done, but the mechanics were worried it wouldn’t pass the emissions test so they put it back the way it was. I’ve still got the parts, so might do it again next week, after it’s annual test.

    Turbo whine

That’s kind of you to post, was having trouble (while in the chip queue) finding the name of it. Having searched for a replacement however, I think a bit of aluminium tape is preferable to the £350 people on eBay are asking. The last one was replaced in Ukraine and cost a fraction of that...

    Turbo whine

Thanks. I like your more permanent solution. It’s the second time mine has gone on 15,000 miles. No idea how long it had been broken the first time either. Will bodge it for now and start a search for the part. Must be a Belgium thing… thats where mine is now……. And probably where it ‘went’ the...

    Turbo whine

Might this be the cause of my turbo whine between 2500 and 3000 rpms?

    Towbar fitting

Thank you. Yes, I do rather like the look of the ARB rear bumper with its swing arm for spare wheel, but at £1600 it’s possibly a bit excessive just for the tow bar. I found a guy breaking a 100 series on eBay. His photos very helpfully show that vehicle with the plastic bumper cover removed and...

    Towbar fitting

Thank you!. I guess I'm going to have to climb underneath and see what's there. Unfortunately, the beast isn't with me at the moment, which is why I'm asking. I need to go and fetch it back from abroad, for it's MOT.

    Towbar fitting

I'm trying to work out what's necessary to fit a tow bar to my 100 series Amazon. It has the factory fitted bumper still. Some online places seem to want to sell a whole new rear bar (which presumably goes under the plastic factory one) while others simply have the hitch which presumably...

    Power loss on motorway

P.s I won’t tell how much it cost….. but put it this way, if I’ve also gained 20% in fuel economy it’ll pay for itself in a few thousand miles.

    Power loss on motorway

Ok….. the car has been with the mechanic for three days. He’s removed and rebuilt the turbo and bench tested it. He’s blanked off the erg and rerouted everything. He’s also cleared out the ‘filter’ which I think it the dpf on the exhaust system. He showed be a bucked full of charcoal. The car is...

It’s a 100, and you may be right…… I haven’t seen what he’s talking about, is there another filter he may have removed?

    Power loss on motorway

Thanks for all the replies…… whether it’s the right solution or not, we think we worked out that the turbo wasn’t working. The mechanic says there was a split somewhere in the pipe work and one of the gates and the turbo itself was overwhelmed in soot. He’s taken it all apart (and hopefully)...

    Main Battery Isolation Switch

That’s really kind to mention it. The one i’ve ordered has an intermittent rating of 455amps, 275 continuous. Hopefully it won’t melt!
  22. Slartybart

    Main Battery Isolation Switch

Yes, absolutely. I’m not with the car now, but even from the pictures I can see there’s a very small ground to chassis from the passenger side (second) battery, and I can’t be sure but it seems that’s it’s only connection. There must be another connection from the first somewhere to ground...

I suppose both negatives can go to the same switch, I guess. Thanks!

    Main Battery Isolation Switch

Thanks… yes they are in parallel and operating at 12v. I’ll check, because I while I saw the first battery neutral was connected to the second I didn’t see a connection from the first battery to the chassis. I’m trying to ensure that whatever I do is nincompoop proof….. one big red switch is...

    Main Battery Isolation Switch

Morning all.... Knowing that the car is likely to be parked up for sometimes weeks on end, I want to install a main starter battery isolation switch. Can I simply put it between the main Ground from the negative side of the second battery (circled), or are there other paths to Ground? Would it...

    Power loss on motorway

Thanks. Will try checking the sensors, as far as I can tell, the overdrive switch is working as far as the dashboard, and it’s certainly something I tried toggling on and off when it happened, but it made no difference. I’ll investigate further, and try and find someone to plug it in and check...

    Power loss on motorway

Oh, and yes it is the 4 speed gear nox with the overdrive… or is that three and an overdrive, it’s hard to tell… which may in itself be a clue…….

    Power loss on motorway

Well I’ve learnt something there already and thanks for that. First thing tomorrow I’ll recheck the ATF level with the engine running….. the Haynes manual showed the two levels for hot and cold, and the level seemed right for hot, but I did have the engine off when I checked. If there’s a bigger...

    Power loss on motorway

Hello everyone. Got an issue with my ‘new’ old beast, which otherwise is a beacon of excellence. I’ve just finished a 1200 mile trip in her, plenty of time for us to get to know each other. Twice now, she’s lost power on the motorway. Trundling along happily at 70-80mph, around 2500rpms when...

Passenger side firewall grommet…easy or a pain to fish cables?

Thanks again, SpinDrift. All sorted and it was very easy, as promised. Now I have a shiny new inverter sitting in the passenger footwell…. Not the best place for it, I admit, but it’ll do for now. Now to wire in the 240v sockets!

Very much appreciated! I’ll set to it in the morning.

Passenger side firewall grommet…easy or a pain to fish cables?

I need to run some cables through the firewall, passenger side. Is it simply a matter of making a hole in the wiring grommet and pushing them through, or will I need to remove the glove box and fan to catch them the other side? I’m trying to gauge whether it’s a twenty minute job or a major...

    Hello

A mile a litre may have been an exaggeration… but when I tried to fill it up last night and the pump reached it’s limit of 100 litres (at a cost of £178) and the tank wasn’t yet full, you can forgive me, I’m sure. The max psi written on the the wall is 65, which seems a lot. I guess that’s when...

    Hello

So far so good…… a much better journey after blowing up the tyres to 35psi from the 25 they’d been left at (BF Goodrich KO). Funnily enough at 25psi, while nice and comfortable, the car seemed to be using around a lite of fuel a mile……going to bump them up a bit before I set off tomorrow…...

    Hello

Evening all, for those in the Northern hemisphere. Currently driving a ‘new to me’ 20 year old (2002) LandCruiser across Europe. She’s a magnificent beast, cruising along the motorway like she’s brand new. Many thanks to the previous owner for kitting her out. Questions and pleas for help from...
