Might this be the cause of my turbo whine between 2500 and 3000 rpms?

Dont know about the whine, but seems to be a 100 “thing”.
Replaced eight years ago, but exact same place cracked again. Realised one day before trip to Belgium. Then looked through old foto’s i took when i thought the turbo had gone and realised i’ve been driving like this for at least two years.

Thanks. I like your more permanent solution. It’s the second time mine has gone on 15,000 miles. No idea how long it had been broken the first time either. Will bodge it for now and start a search for the part. Must be a Belgium thing… thats where mine is now……. And probably where it ‘went’ the last time!!!

Also in Belgium now. Back Sunday.
Kenco coffee tin. Does not completely seal it though. Think its the part number below.

That’s kind of you to post, was having trouble (while in the chip queue) finding the name of it. Having searched for a replacement however, I think a bit of aluminium tape is preferable to the £350 people on eBay are asking. The last one was replaced in Ukraine and cost a fraction of that, although as that too has failed, perhaps that’s why……….

You seriously have to get rid of that pipe. It's only purpose is to pollute your intake. Remove the pipe, blind off both ends, and connect the water hoses with a short piece of pipe/connector. Or even better, remove the EGR valve as well and put in a straight connector on the intake pipe.
There is a thread on this somewhere in here, make sure the blind/cover on the exhaust end is not too flimsy.

I had that done, but the mechanics were worried it wouldn’t pass the emissions test so they put it back the way it was. I’ve still got the parts, so might do it again next week, after it’s annual test.

Don’t know how to post a link, but below is the thread heading from warrenpfo -

1HD-FTE EGR removal

He simply removed the air hose to the actuator in the end. Link to a youtube video on June 2nd, 2013. Done that.

@uHu would that be sufficient or do i have to blank off as well. My coffe tin fix does not completely seal the pipe… thanks!

I'm sure it does work, unless you have a crack in the pipe.... in which case I'm not so sure. Anyway, after a bodge job with goo, glue, a bit of aluminium sheet and a few clamps, mine passed its MOT this morning despite its cracked EGR pipe. (Phew!) I'll look again in the coming days and consider a proper 'delete' now it won't be tested again for another year.

On reflection.... it may well have passed the emissions test because half the exhaust crap was being diverted to the engine bay.... probably best not to mention that to the tester.......

You will probably find it will fly through the MOT with the EGR blanked off..... My 1HD FT passes every year with no issue despite the EGR being blanked and the pump being tweaked

Blanked off with plates i welded up from the previous pipe i replaced.
Passed MOT yesterday!!

That's good to know. Mine running fine since delete.... although she now needs a fuel tank..... the drop in fuel economy to 3km's/litre was a bit of a clue.........
