    What shall I do tonorrow?

So, gents, I'm booked on the 03:00 flight tomorrow morning. Work has given me the whole day offf, so what do I do? Option 1: 1: grease all my nipples, change oit to 5w50 for 50C* + in summer 2: change the cross-ply 255/90 Dunlops for the 285/75s Coopers on alloys 3: get really sweaty and...

    Engine upgrades

I watched a soft-top 70 with a Lexus V8 in the Stanbic Challenge in Zambia last year. No pics or videos, I'm afraid, but believe me the sound from that engine puts shivers down the spine. Awesome what some people do with their motors...

    Engine upgrades

Any of the straight 6 Landcruiser units. 2F, 3F and 1FZ-FE will all pull right down to 200 or so revs, they just keep going long after you think they should have stalled. They may be the exceptions that prove the rule though... :)

    New Year Shopping

Hi Jon, Nice to hear from you too. I have to confess that I was three sheets to the wind the other night, which kind of explains the mad post. Or does it? I wish my laptop had a breathalyser built in...

    New Year Shopping

Hell of a showroom maybe, but I still don't know how to drive them properly. You need somebody like IRubie or JWildsmith to take you to extremes, show you what an LC can do, and then decide. cheers, Pauk

    New Year Shopping

Ah, you've started a topic that's very dear to my heart at the moment. They retail at around 19K GBP, less for SWBs and a bit more fore Troopies. I would love to start shipping them back (even if it involved driving one or two) but they're LHD and GCC-spec, so I don't see them going down well...

    New Year Shopping

Hi Ecky, That's pretty much exaxtly what they are. Dunlop and Sumitomo make loads of noise about the 'rubber compound'. but essentially they are high profile tyres with little treard pattern. Have a look at their website...

    New Year Shopping

Hi Everyone, Haven't been on for a while, but thought I'd take the opportunity to wish you all a happy and prosperous New Year. With no justification other than blind optimism I decided yesterday that 2011 will be the year that I can afford to run two Cruisers, so spent an hour or two...

    Chad govt bans Land Cruisers

Strangely enough, in Dubai only UAE citizens can register a 79 pick-up as a private vehicle. Foreigners can only drive them as company cars. The dealer told me that it was something to do with smuggling across the Saudi & Omani borders. I haven't had time to ask the Land Rover dealer if he's...

    Opinions on Tyre size

Most of the guys who don't get stuck out here in the sand run 9.00x16 Siam Desert Tyres. Granted, they're cross-plies and are dubious on wet tarmac, but aired down to 10 psi they work wonders. I can get most places on 7.50x16 Yokos, at about 15 psi, where 275/70s definitely struggle. Wide is...

Club Name - Vote for it

Well, as some bloke wrote a few hundred years ago, "What's in a name? That which we call a rose by any other name would smell as sweet." We could try the 'Toyota Landcruisers Owners Club UK', but that would hardly reflect the wide-ranging membership of both ELCO and LCC. :D I'd be inclined to...

    In temporary exile

Not this time, unfortunately. Still, looking on the bright side, at least I won't have to spend the next 3 months chipping chunks of red concrete off the underside... :)

    RHD FJ Cruiser

Toyota are rumoured to be releasing the FJ Cruiser in Australia. Wonder if we'll see it in UK dealers in diesel RHD form? http://theage.drive.com.au/motor-news/toyotas-hummer-heads-for-oz-20100310-pyyn.html

    In temporary exile

Thanks. It rides a bit like a bed of nails compared to the 80, but hopefully the rear leaves will soften a bit with age - it's only got 65,000 km on it at the moment. My long-term goal is to drive it back to the UK, but nothing concrete as yet.

The Royal Geographical Society Overland Travel Workshop

I went along last year, as did a few other ELCOers. I didn't camp, but really enjoyed the day listening to the speakers and poking around the stands and other people's cars. In fact, it was so inspiring that this year I can't go, because I'm in the UAE instead of Yorkshire. (Not sure if it...

    In temporary exile

Hi Everybody I finally managed to get on board, thanks to Jon W's invite and Crispin's patience. ;) Some of you may remember me slithering my way around Lincombe in a bright yellow 80-series. Unfortunately the 80 had to go, because I landed a new job in Dubai and couldn't bring it with me...
