    A/C Issues - HELP!

Glad to hear the 17 is working. I found an technician friend of mine in a different city here in Angola who can get ahold of the seals and such for the front of my 15 style compressor. Given the cost of replacing those parts and regassing will be much cheaper and quicker than my current...

    A/C Issues - HELP!

SC, that is very interesting. I used to work in a Ford parts dept and remembered having reman units being sold there. I always thought that everything for the most part was either replaced or completely rebuilt. Maybe in the USA it is that way, but not elsewhere.

    A/C Issues - HELP!

Is this the same case with all reman parts like alternators, power steering pumps, etc? For now, I'll get the one in SA. On my return to the USA, I'll make sure my old one measures up to the new ones available there so I can be sure it'll fit without any worries, and then replace it with...

Where's the best place for LHD 80's

Denis, Here's a link to a South African based forum I'm a part of where a guy converted his 1HZ powered Troopy to a 1HD-T engine, and then kitted it out as a serious 2 person overloading rig. He might give you some ideas...

    Key Cutting

Update on the key cutting. Things were taking a while since my FIL made the call for the key and it still hadn't arrived in the post. He called the dealer and they informed him that Toyota NO LONGER made that key blank!!! Nice of them to forget to call back. Still, I'm not terribly disappointed...

    A/C Issues - HELP!

Well, I decided not to risk things with buying a compressor in the USA. I'm working on getting a second hand one rebuilt in Joburg to be carried up by my buddy. It's cooling down significantly here in Namibe, so for now I don't need the A/C. Worse case scenario, I could always remove the...

    A/C Issues - HELP!

Frank, do you have the part number for the complete compressor and clutch assembly? ToyoDIY doesn't. Thanks again for all your responses. I've sourced some compressors in the USA, but not sure if they'll be a perfect match or not. Also not sure if my friends can fly with an a/c compressor in...

    A/C Issues - HELP!

The 15 designation you're speaking of, is that the '15L' on my compressor tag? Toyota DIY says this is the part# for the compressor: 88320-60630 and this for the A/C clutch: 88410-22480 Does that sound right?

    Key Cutting

Thanks Julian. Good to hear from you. I'm not sure if they are original or not, but I would guess they are. The ignition and all door locks are the same, and the key seems to have the kind of wear you'd expect for a 21 yr old key. I'm going to see if my in-laws in Portsmouth can have a couple of...

    A/C Issues - HELP!

Does anyone know if there is a difference in the A/C compressor's on a RHD vs LHD Cruiser or a 4.2 TD vs a 4.5 petrol, given the model year is the same? I'm looking to see if I can purchase an A/C compressor in the USA where a buddy of mine is and have him fly it back to Angola with him.

    Key Cutting

Dave, I thought as much. I've got family in Portsmouth, UK. I'll see if they can't pop over to a Toyota dealer and get a key cut. If not, they may at least be able to get me a blank or two and then a dealer in SA or Angola may be able to cut the key.

    A/C Issues - HELP!

Ok guys. I'll see what it looks like to import one into the country as well. I'm hoping that things work out in SA to get one from there though. It'll be much easier and faster. Angolan customs can be a real mission.

    A/C Issues - HELP!

I don't think I'll be in SA anytime soon to get it rebuilt. I'll see about a new one first. Glad yours is working well! I've contacted a number of people in SA including a Toyota dealer to see what I can get sent up with a friend of mine. Hopefully my existing compressor will continue working...

    Bfg/at,s

I've got some 285/75R16 BFG AT/K02's on my 80 series and I love them! I previously had the old version BFG Mud's, and while they were unstoppable off-road, I found they handling on road less than desirable, especially when I knew my wife would be driving the cruiser. Braking is significantly...

SC, I dig that leak detector! That thing looks pretty slick! I sure hope I don't have to resort to sourcing a compressor out of Europe! :grimacing: SA has quite a few 80 & 100 series cruisers running around still. I'd be surprised if they didn't have something available. Then again, those...

Used one off a John Deere? Wow! I'm guessing Denso made compressor's for more than Toyota's then. Whatever there is available second hand in this country is likely fried already. I'm just hoping I can get something reasonable out of SA.

    A/C Issues - HELP!

SC, I've been monitoring the glass where the freon runs through to look for bubbles. I generally do that during recharging and the days following to check for leaks. The freon runs clean with no bubbles at all. I'll do as you've said and keep cleaning/monitoring the clutch plates. I need to...

    A/C Issues - HELP!

Ugh... SC, I was hoping against hope... The A/C is blowing quite cold and is engaging/disengaging quite well right now, but you confirmed the suspicions I did not voice... When I saw that green tinged oil, I had a feeling the seal was going and may be the source of my leak. So, I won't be...

    A/C Issues - HELP!

Well, I had a good look at things today. I started the engine with the A/C off and the A/C pulley was turning true. It continued to do so with the A/C turned on as well. As suggested before, I then pulled off the cover, which on my compressor was connected to part of the A/C clutch plate. It was...

Hey everyone, I need a spare key cut, but I'm living in Angola. Toyota SA doesn't carry the UK type blanks for 80 series cruisers and everyone else has to order them from the UK or Japan. Does anyone know if a UK Toyota dealer can cut a key based on the VIN number alone? Cheers!

    A/C Issues - HELP!

He never pulled off the A/C clutch to clean it, just pulled off the belts to check bearings and then replaced the belts with new ones. The A/C was working just fine then. In regards to the pulley spinning off center, I've not observed the pulley wobbling when the A/C is engaged or disengaged...

    A/C Issues - HELP!

And this is why it's so critical to belong to a good forum! I'll pull off the clutch plate and then the belt this afternoon. We only have the one vehicle so I'm hoping I can rectify this all with just a good clean of the air gap. I sure hope the bearing on the compressor is good. I did have...

    A/C Issues - HELP!

Copy that StarCruiser. Will do it tomorrow. I just got back from my 4 day road trip and the a/c clutch was acting up again. I found that if I just took the handle end of a rubber mallet and slightly tapped the a/c clutch while the a/c was turned on and engine running, it would engage and we'd...

    A/C Issues - HELP!

Great stuff guys. I'll admit, I was a bit hesitant when the A/C guy said to spray penetrant on the A/C clutch as I would never spray ANY kind of lubricant or penetrant on my transmission clutch, so I thought the same thing about my A/C clutch. Still, I was in a bit of a bind with no working A/C...

Well thats that then, the end of the V8 Landcruiser

The LC 200 is still selling just fine in Africa. Toyota Gibraltar, the NGO arm of Toyota lists the GX and GXR 200 series for sale as well as the Prado and various 70 series models. A/C repair guy came today and looked over all the lines. He didn't hook up a pressure gauge, but did a few test and confirmed that the system was low on freon. A/C Issues - HELP!

It's so nice to get so many responses! I was striking out on another forum. There was definitely a leak when I had it re-gassed in Joburg. A/C Issues - HELP!

Ok. I'll see if I can get someone local to hook up their pressure gauges and see if the system just needs a top up. We re-gassed it in Joburg about 2 months ago after it sat for about 18 months while we were in Portugal. All the gas leaked out, but after the re-gas it worked just fine. Now that...

    80 Series Wheel Back Spacing

Hey Guys, Does anyone know what the standard wheel backspacing is on the 80 series? I've ordered a caravan from South Africa and am getting an axle that matches the LC. They obviously need to know what the back spacing is to order the correct axle width. Thanks in advance!!!

Rear bumper - entirely subjective question within

Wangjjang, I definitely think you could cut some angles into the bottoms of that bumper. It's too chunky looking for the vehicle. Take a look at this link: http://www.dcfabrication.com/fj80_rearbumper.html I'm wanting to build one like his.

    Dash lights all turned on!

Okay, so I lost internet not long after I read Frank's post. So I went to a garage and took a multimeter to the batteries while the vehicle was running. It was charging at around 9-10 volts. So, I have a 95' 1HD-FT 80 Series and am in Joburg, South Africa. I was coming down from Pretoria, getting on the highway when my I suddenly noticed that all of my dash lights were on. My truck is marking its territory

Just a quick thought. I replaced my rear pinion seal a few months back and torqued it up as best I could. It never gave me any problems and I've just run the truck through the gauntlet in Angola. Well guys, I found out something at the very end of my time in Angola that made me sick. There is a emergency power cut off "key" that goes into a port that looked something like a 12v outlook. It turns out that because I wasn't aware of this fact, the alternator was never charging the 3rd...
