Yeah Dave, had my doubts it was the shocks as fitted a fresh set and nothing improved.
Have had a chance for a closer look and it’s clear the 2 bolt heads on rear DS mount have been contacting the body. Not sure why body mount rubbers on that side have compressed compared to the PS but will be...
Yeah Frank, I replaced the gearbox mounts last year when fitting new clutch so they are good.
I think Andy has hit the nail on the head. Looking at the body mounts I noticed the very rear mount DS has 2 bolt heads that have been clearly hitting the body. The mount on the opposite side I can...
Apologies for slow replies, didn’t notice this thread was still going.
Where I live is different to the Mainland regarding MOTs. We can’t just go to any garage testing centre like I used to do when lived in Leicester years ago.
Instead there are government run centres around the country that...
Thanks, certainly worth checking the rubber body mounts. Will get my young fella to drive it at w’end and I’ll get in the back like u mentioned. Might at least give me an idea what area it’s coming from. Cheers.
Baffled by this one. Got a good heavy pry bar on all the rear bushes and nothing out of the ordinary. Same with all associated nuts&bolts.
It has to be something substantial contacting given the bang through the cab. Very odd only happens when the rear axle does a quick down/up movement on...
Thanks for thoughts fellas. Never thought might be some failed bushes or even a rusty mount hidden under all the waxoil. It’s good at hiding problems. I’ll get a good pry bar on the rear end and see if anything gives. Thought maybe exhaust but the waxoil would leave its mark and too heavy/loud a...
Just to finish off this thread, I did push the government department that regulates the MOTs over here to tell me what action they planned to take regarding this specific clown but they would only say how seriously they are taking the matter. I'm sure. Its very much a case of protecting their...
Was wondering if anyone on the forum has had a similar problem with their rear suspension.
Quite a few years ago now I fitted the Pedders 2" heavy duty lift kit to the 80 and back then if I hit a big enough pothole there was an almighty metal contacting with metal bang.
As it happened rarely...
Another company worth a look is https://www.ssg.asia/
Used them a few times recently for high price items.
I find with all these dubai/japan companies its best to gather a good list of items so the savings offset the high freight charges.
Also its luck of the draw if get clobbered with import...
Yeah Frank, my full beam indicator is fine and MOT reports where I am are a bit different than the mainland as there are no real tick boxing its more a summary of minor/major faults and braking efficiency etc. I should have posted up the MOT failure as he had put the regulation it related to. I...
He was very young and full of his own importance. I stood for a good 20 minutes arguing that my truck does not have a dipped beam indicator just to have him recite what road rule says it must. I knew he was full of crap but i drove home half convinced I’m maybe wrong.
Anyhow by the time I’ve...
Thanks for your replies guys. I thought I was losing my mind.
This means war. Unfortunately in NI the MOT centres are government run but first thing tomorrow I'll be lodging a formal complaint with the civil service clowns that run these tests and the MOT tester personally. I will also...
Hi,
Been a long time since I posted on the forum but thought I would share a really odd time at the MOT today.
I young fella is trying to fail my 93' cruiser as he can't see an indicator on the dash for when the headlight dipped beam is on.
Had my cruiser since 2010 and only remember a High...
Hi Tim, no not something I’ve had to replace - yet.
Think would help you if create a new post with relevant title as I have no doubt some of the guys on here will know the procedure.
By the way, spent most of my adult life living in WA before returning to the glorious Irish climate! Miss the...
Thought should upload pic of the earth cable Im looking at to make sure. The other end of the thicker cable is what I mentioned terminates directly to the block below the manifold. Very hard to check what state the cable is actually in as real awkward to get at.
Sounds like having more than...
Think might take it to an auto electrician for extra straps as likely i'll make things worse!
Just had a look again and the earth connection on my no. 1 battery has a thin wire to the inner panel and then the thicker cable runs down and terminates against the engine block side just above the...
Cheers.
I had previously checked all the connections for the batteries and the various relays and they seem sound.
So if I understand correctly my options are to replace the original battery to block earth strap as this is likely the problem or run a same size strap from number 1 battery neg...
Unfortunately the lecky side is not my strong point. I can see one earth strap running down from the number one battery and attached to the engine block. Doesn't look too easy got at to clean up if it is that earthing point. Thinking there are a number of earths could be at fault and might just...
ok chris you are a star. Thought would go for easiest option so connected a jump lead from the lift hook to my bull bar and bang off she went.
Sooo this tells me somewhere in that engine bay is a bad earth? Maybe I just drive it with the jump lead attached!
Cheers fellas. Unfortunately currently working on this single handed so cant check 24v at starter terminal when being switched on but definitely getting 12v at rest. Also getting correct voltage at the voltage converter terminals for both batteries looking at the FSM.
Think I will try the...
Hi all,
Now starting to understand why folk changed over to 12v starter systems.
Hoping somebody on here can give me some more things to try for my 80 that is not cranking before I have to admit defeat and get it recovered to a garage for the first time.
Turn the key and get the loud clack...
Title says it all really.
Out in the arse end of nowhere having lunch with my young fella, went to drive home and clatter/bang from the starter. Tried usual thumping it but no go.
Must admit i sat there in shock for a bit. Just goes to show how reliable these old wagons are and the surprise...
have this on 3+ years now. Simple fit and working well. As mentioned, easy gravity bleeding:
https://www.roughtrax4x4.com/aisin-clutch-slave-cylinder-80-series.html
Just watched ep3 of new series. Sounds like they should have kept using the mighty 80. Clarkson reckons at the end of Columbia trip they went through 6 ‘nearly new’ landcruisers while his Jeep just kept going.:flushed:
Happy days. Bit more 315 choice. Q rated as well unlike STTs. Now if MTZs became available again I would be a v. happy boy. Anybody seen a price on the BFGs?
That’s interesting info with the speed rating. Did seem odd the k version isn’t sold elsewhere.
Can’t blame the cracks on standing unused as used each day. Is odd 2 of the tyres are free of damage.
reluctantly I’ll need to change my MTs for peace of mind. I’d better grab a set quick before...
Yeah Richard, no complaints that way about them. Still drive great. Was more a concern if possible safety issues with family in the motor. Blow outs and the likes.
If forced to replace with STTs then will get a spare set of wheels and continue to thrash them off road.
Will see what Mickey T...
Unfortunately mine are Mickey Thompson MTZs which are no longer sold in Europe. I believe Cooper now own them.
I’ve sent emails to Cooper UK and Mickey Thompson tech department. Not in the hope of replacement as 5 years old but more to find out if seen as superficial.
Now with your experience...
Living in NI it is more likely damage from damp than sun!
Rotate opposite corners every 6 months so not sure if damaged on same side. Used a lot off road so maybe damaged then.
Carrying the young fella about I can’t really take any chances. Only choice now is fitting STTs with their K speed...
Just had a look and ‘3313’ stamped on them so 2013 manufactured if understand the markings.
Cruiser used as DD so seems more likely age than lack of use.
Odd only showing on 2 of them. If could get replacements then wouldn’t even think about it but thanks to EU that is no longer possible...
Suspect I know the answer to this bit thought would ask anyhow.
Was checking over the cruiser for its MOT next week and noticed that 2 of my 4 Mickey Thompson tyres have developed hairline cracks near the rim.
4 years old with plenty of tread and the rest of the tyre is sound. Oddly only...
Looks like the same numbers as the old Toyota alt I pulled from '93 12valve and definite oval. Replaced with new Denso from Opie:
01209 202949, [email protected].
Not sure about postage to Hungary though.
Good luck, Dave.
Funny thing Dave, been round bikes most of my life and still wouldn't get on the back of one!
Just got cable fitted back on just fine after some swearing and throwing of heavy objects.
Tried following the FSM manual way of adjusting the bellcrank, 8 turns back from locked on the adjuster...
Must take my hat off to you guys.
I’ve ended up unbolting the handbrake lever from the floor to get the cable out. Actually helped with room to use a clip to compress those little finger things.
Guess that’s the difference between real mechanics and have a go hammer hands like me!
Should...
Thanks for replies and yes I grabbed a Toyo cable to make sure would be good fit. The rest of the pins/bolts came out ok was just the front I’m struggling with.
Just so I’m clear, looking at the top photo, do you remember opening the little lug halfway down that I circled?
I pulled it open as...
