I have a 70 series with a boiled 1pZ engine ( cracked a bore )
I cant source a replacement engine anywhere does anyone know of one or anyone who knows if a 4.2 engine wil go in or ideallyanyone who can fit one I am in Lancashire but will travel anywhere to get it done properly As I cant find anyone who has any experiance on these

Phew the 1PZ is not very common in the UK AFAIK - it's the 5 cyl. version of the 1HZ if I'm not mistaken (3.5l diesel)?
As you've indicated, the chances of finding another one in the UK are pretty slim. I would think a 1HZ or even a 1HD-T would fit as the engines are likely to be very similar other than length. Not sure how complicated setting the turbo up would be but on the mechanically driven engines, it would be well within the capabilities of a competent diesel mech, I would think.

My suggestion would be to have a search on LCOOL or some of the other Aussie forums as I think they got the 1PZ. I don't recall ever seeing them in South Africa although no doubt there is the odd one knocking around there. With luck you may find some write-ups of people in Aus swapping the PZ for HZ or similar!

Cheers,

Carl, talk to Paul at West Coast Offroad Centre in Southport - see if he still has a modified 90 with 80 axles in his yard to see his work...

Than get him to shoehorn the 80 4.2 lump into your truck ;-) Beautiful baby!!! ;-)

EDIT - found you a number... 01704 229 014

Thanks for your help
As far as I can see it is a European Engine and sold in Japan but not Australia

I know Paul at West C0ast ( I bought the truck off him ) and have dealt with his dad Tony for years the issue is he cant find a engine we know the history of and am not prepared to put an unknown one in
I was hoping some specialist had a known or rebuilt 1Hz engine on floor as need to get it back on road Fed up with driving a Discovery !!

The 1PZ is not a common engine anywhere,I think it was only made for 5 years. They sold a few in oz in 1990.

Dropping in the 1HZ or 1HD T will not be all that straightforward as the 5 cyl sits a few inches further forward.
I think you would need the bell housing and clutch off the 6 cyl and it would need to be the same R151 gearbox you probably have .Older 1HZ use the H55f gearbox.
There are also 12 volt and 24 volt models

A cracked bore maybe repairable if you can find an engine machinist who can put a sleeve in.
The complete engine kit is only about $1000+ freight from Australia

Another option might be to use the 4 cyl 1KZ T which has some similarities to the PZ and HZ,but again, not a straight drop in.
The 1KZ T uses the R151 gearbox.

Just to add, it may be possible to source a 1PZ from Canada as a few 70s with 1PZ engines found there way over there for the Mining companies. Might be worth posting on IH8MUD.
