305's or 315's?

whats your opinions on fitting 305's or 315's with a 4" suspension lift?
is there cautions to consider when fitting 315's in terms of the king pins? I've heard of people's failing when fitting 35" tyres.

I'm running 305s on a 110mm suspension lift and I have had no known problems with the "king-pins" although I too have been "warned" that they may fail prematurely.

MHO is that these trucks are built way above a "normal" factor of over-engineering. There are several components which would be potentially overloaded by the use of bigger wider and heavier tyres, namely the CVs, drive-shafts, wheel bearings, steering ball joints and even the diffs. I don't have any experience of premature failures of any of these components after 8 years of running oversized tyres.

I'm on 305/70/16s so my rolling diameter is marginally over 33" and I have no experience with 35". I really do think that the biggest concern with oversized tyres should focus more on the effects on gearing, top speed reduction, reduced braking efficiency due to the extra braking needed to compensate for the grater inertia of a heavier tyre and such like.

The rest of the scaremongering is, IMO, just the "skinny brigade" trying to justify its existence

Seriously though, these trucks are built for the apocalypse, it doesn't make them foolproof, and I may be a fool, but mine has tolerated me for 8 years with few complains in that department....

I run 35" on a 3" lift, but they do catch the front mud flap in full lock. I have a EFS 4" lift kit to fit if I ever get the time, tbh I have not noticed any difference in the gearing or how it performs since fitting them. As for the braking mmmmmmmmmmmmmm not sure as they were crap before and still are

Ive got 35x12.5 on mine, 2.5 inch lift and no real issues, don't catch even full lock and no failure of kingpins.
I run skinny 33s (255/85r16) everyday and the 35s are for play so gets the hard use with them on. Have broken the little studs for a rear driveshaft flange but that was with all the diff locks in, low range and should've used the winch lol
Gearing is fine and can still pull away from a lot of motors at traffic lights , brakes are fine after an overhaul. I do have a petrol with some tweaks but dont hear bad reports from people with oil burners

I personally find it drives better on the 35s as the skinny 33s tend to lose traction on damp roads, the ride is smoother too.

I intially had set my mind on getting a set of bfg 305/70r16s but for an extra £100 or so I could get a set of 315's. Good to hear people's thoughts though

I notice very little difference on 35's. Petrol auto.

I can't comment with my 1HZ, only that 33's knocked a few kph off the top end.

Don't think it would show on the 1HD though.

Just check your speeds with a GPS, mine reads over at speeds less than 60kph and under at speeds over 60kph.

When the speedo reads 100kph, my GPS speed is about 106 kph, so 6% out on the illegal side in a 100 kph zone.

Not to worried about top end speed. The max speed limit here is 40mph lol.

My speedo is slightly out, when reads 70 mph the gps shows 72 mph. Still pulls to a ton

Got the same tyres on mine. But I moved my front axle forward 18mm to avoid any contact in the arches on full lock. It was a simple procedure

Hi Saulens your cruisers looks very impressive. Exactly what I'm looking to do with mine. I've got just had the 4x4 specialist front bumper delivered and now saving for the rear bumper with spare wheel carrier and ladder.

BTW, watch out for those brush wires, if anyone seps too close and gets caught by one of them, it will slice an arm off like a cheese wire.

Great off-road, but a bit iffy on asphalt or around the town.

I am new to Landcruisers so please forgive this probably silly question. I was told a 2" suspension lift and a 2" body lift was the way to go for big tyres, compared to a 4" suspension lift???
