80 series gullwings rear windows

Looks like a simplified (on the curves) version of the marathon job I'm making of mine. Looking smart I must say. Any reason for the one up one down gas struts?

Update…contacted the sheet metal shop today. Looks like this time next week I SHOULD have a prototype. Then it's tweak it till it fits, alter the drawing and cut some out of ally. Then they should be finished enough to give some pricing and take some orders. [emoji6]

Excellent news. Still very keen here. Prototype - drum roll please .........

Counting down the days Chris. I'm itching to get on with these.

Had to do a search for this thread so it's high time I did an update.

Well, I contacted the sheet metal shop for the fourth time today and got to speak to the boss!! He says…I SHOULD have a prototype by the end of the week as the CAD drawing I did is now on the machine and he'll try and get them done this week. I have started laying it on thick and phoning every couple of days so hopefully I'll see the prototypes soon.

Hmm… I've just read my post 162… déjà vu!!

That's good to hear and I hope everyone on the list will like the look of them when I finally do get them in my grubbies. The one good thing is that they've priced up the ally sheet so once they've done a prototype we should be nearer to putting a price together.

Yep, as long as they basically look like the ones we kicked off with, I am very very keen

No no, the ones before that. I think they were glass? Ha ha

I can do blacked out glass look, will that do?

Now let's not get too carried away just yet, I've yet to get something to put a finish on!!![emoji36][emoji36][emoji26]

No prototype. [emoji20]
Next week they say, so I've started laying it on really quite thick as its now 4 weeks. [emoji20][emoji36]

I really hope they do it next week, they say they're the busiest they've ever been, which is good but…!! I was hoping to trial fit them over the weekend.

We'll see what Monday brings…

Keeping the fingers crossed, I tried crossing other bits too but it got too painful. :icon-wink:

Listen I applaud the whole project and I hope we get there but I feel your pain here. Rear tailgate decks anyone? We had every excuse under the sun on that one.

Brrrr. Memories. Nurse pass me the special pills.

IMO These guys just arnt bothered about a few one off items. I know there may be say 10 made but they just don't care.

Ive be tried a number of times to have stuff made up and struggled. The market is so small. If you went to them and wanted 10,000 made then we would have a different outcome.

I know what you mean Karl, but I have had stuff made by these guys before and it has always been spot on and usually when they have said and that's for one offs. They really are just very busy and it's holiday season. Trouble is, it's like changing checkout queues at the supermarket if I try somewhere else. As soon as you do, the original queue starts to move. They did say Monday but would try for before the weekend, so I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt.

The wheel that does the squeaking is the one that gets the grease…I'm beginning to squeak…lots!! Once I get the prototype done and sorted and we're on to the actual doors then it should be ok as that will just be feeding the machine once it's set.

Bear with me fellas…keep those fingers crossed and I hope to have some good news for you soon.

I used to have 10,000 batches of product made and the situation was little different as the guy on his own took on too much and was unrealistic about delivery. He's lost most of his business now as some of his customers have even bought their own machines and now make in house such was the regularity he delivered late.
Quality was always superb though so you get caught between the devil and the deep blue sea.

Don't worry, we're with yah all the way. Nothing ventured ...

This isn't unusual as we know, so let's not let the doubt gremlins start creeping in

We all know what the alternative is.
