Hi guys
Has anyone been using this acetone on the list. Love to try it but im a
chicken. Wonder if it would mix well with the Millers.

My usage is not very scientific but so far no problems and seems to give
a little extra distance per tank.
Best regards,
Jon.

Hi Andrew,
Never thought of that, slightly nervous of it being sent through the
post!

Hi Julian,
Mine came from the local motor paint suppliers in a 5 litre tin.
Best regards,
Jon.

Timely warning - I ordered some from that Ebay site about 60 seconds ago!
In fact I don't see a problem as if you look on that page he complies with the Ebay requirements for hazardous materials, and it is sent correctly packaged, labelled and declared by courier (for =A37.50).
If the government gestapo want to visit that's fine - I'll tell them that I store it in the septic tank.
Worth it? I don't know. 5 litres has cost =A320, and at the recommended dosage rate of 2 fl.oz per 10 US gallons, or in round terms 100cc per typical tank full, that's adding 40p to the cost of refuelling the truck, or about 0.55%.
So if it's snake oil I've lost =A320, but we shall see. If all else fails I've got daughters, and we'll have enough nail varnish remover to last verily unto the third and fourth generation!

| Ordering it via the mail might turn out to be a bad idea.
| Miscreant dopers now use it to make methamphetamine from
| common cold tablets. It's also used in processing cocaine
| into crack. So you never know who might knock at your door
| if you mail order it.
|
| If you can buy it at a local body shop, great. It's an
| effective solvent that we car guys have been using for 50+
| years. Too bad the dopers started using it too.
|
| But my Scottish blood wonders if you won't pay more for it by
| the liter than you will save in diesel at the pump.

Hi Christopher
Will you let us know what you find out inrelation to if it does what it
doesn't say on the tin. I reakon it would cost me an extra ?10 or more for
shipping, that is if they would at all.
It is king of flamable.
Dana says he got an extra 2 miles or so to the gallon so to break even you
would need an extra 3 or 4 miles I think per tanl full.
Now im only guessing because I dont know the cost of diesel in the UK at the
moment.

He'd probably quote for shipping to Ireland - drop him an email. But surely you'd be better off seeking out a body shop or similar, or searching Yellow Pages, etc.
I'll let you know how I get on, but it will probably be a month before I can give a definitive answer about whether or not it has helped. Really I'm just doing it for fun as I'd be astonished if such a small amount of cheap additive could make a significant difference to economy - but we shall see,
Diesel in the UK is about 91p/litre at present, and I think it's around 70p in the Irish Republic is it not? Think in percentage terms though: if your mpg improves by 10% then your fuel costs you 10% less, whatever the price per gallon. So if your tank full costs around 100 Euros then that is a saving of 10 Euros per tank.
