Looks like my Sparkrite immobiliser relay is failing - the second one. Do
you know if its a common problem ?
(Yes, I know, you all have factory fitted alarms, but you might have these
on your other cars).

My alarm played up about a year ago (went off all on its own). Although it says "Toyota" on the outside I'm told it is the same gubbins as the Sparkrite unit.
Turned out to have 2" of water in the horn unit in the engine compartment - apparently a common problem with the UK units that have been shoddily installed. Has been fine since I emptied it out and sealed it. Worth a check?

Goes on to about 5-ish today.
Not that many steam things - about 5x traction engines, lots of vintage tractors (some younger than me ... vintage???)
Some impressive models in a tent, gun-dogs, vintage cars, good bouncy castle complex, a few stalls...
... and no winches.

Jon,
I don't know about Sparkrite but my second Cobra (Italian) is on it's last
legs after a few months of use (the first didn't work out of the box). And I
won't ask them again for replacement under warranty.

Not completely on topic but related ... I accidentally blew the fuse to
the fuel shut off solenoid on the injector pump a while back but didn't
realise that was what I'd done. Came to use the car, no go. Called AA,
and left him to sort it (was in a hurry). He poked and prodded and said
solenoid was faulty so I gave go ahead to order one. Later I fitted the
new solenoid and of course it still didn't work so I checked the power
to it and guess what? No power. Anyway, I eventually tracked it down to
a blown fuse because a poorly placed screw had pierced some wiring ...
Strikes me pulling that fuse would be a pretty good way of disabling the
car in future. Might not be Thatcham approved but it gets my approval.

Jon.

Haha ... the F26 (7,5A) fuse can be a pain, just as not being able to start
the engine and blaming the immobiliser while the automatic is left in gear :)
Actually, if you leave the HI-LOW stick in neutral most lowlifes will never
figure out why the car won't drive.
Immobilisers can be a real pain if you don't know what they do and how to
disable them. Having limied trust in modern electronics, particularly Italian,
I have created a bypass using hidden switches so that the engine can be
started even if the alarm/immo fails completely.
