Any plan on the cruiser(s) over Xmas break?

Taking the 80 to work this Saturday for a once over on the ramp, done quite a bit of laning this year so due a good check. Don't plan on any other work on it unless find any issues.

need to order an oil filter but that's for January when Mot gets done.

A pretty long list for me. In no particular order.
Change Bebs, Oil and fuel filters.
Fit permanent digi rear view mirror.
Complete sub tank install wiring.
Fit ARB compressor reservoir to chassis compressor in boot
make up dog guard divider thingy.
complete and install rear drawers.
Fit rear 3rd battery.
Install CTEK system.
Remove sliders and paint chassis & sliders
Relocate rear foglights to bumper.
Install swing arm for spare tyre.
Modify swing arm from Jerry can to maxtrax and hi lift jack.

Yeah i know I'm not gonna get through it but if i knock 50% off i'll be happy.

Driving up to North Wales for xmas week so planning to do a few lanes.

My Hilux canopy stinks of petrol and chainsaw oil, and a mess of tree strops, hand winch and other tree felling kit So needs a tidy up.
Been busy last few weeks post storm Arwen getting free firewood, got several years worth to split and stack now… Sankey trailer been put to good use too.

Nice to hear some good coming out of the storm. Looks like you've hit the wood burning jackpot there!

I lost out on hours of work - digging a mountain bike track in local forest though, whole block of the forest flattened right where I worked… took a while to retrieve my tools
but the firewood softens the blow

that there is what its all about.

4x4, winch, snow, chainsaws, blue skies, fresh air, in the countryside. big flask of sweet tea, red leicester butties with marmite and a pouch of GV bright..

ok, that last bit might just be me..

Hi All, Thank you for advices. Today I managed to find time and lifted car on Jack and stands. The plan was to rotate tyres, look under the car and libricate drive shaft joints etc. before Jacking tried to loosen tyre bolts but too tight so left that task.
It took about 1.5 hrs to lift car and place stands successfully after few attempts

I looked for videos to grease drive shaft. The only videos I found were 100 series and Lexus version of it. From those videos I understood there is a long iron shaft with two U joints on either ends and one cylinder joint in middle and along that shaft I ll find 6 Jerks for grease.

After I opened underbody covers, I managed to find only 3 jerk points, two at U joints and one in middle.

First U joint at rear with jerk and Second U joint with jerk at middle of car, lubricated till grease came out of all corners.
The cylinder is in between these two. While pumping grease, it expanded, some grease came out, then with loud bang it contracted.
Please advise if ..

Its normal for cylinder joint to make such sound and contract back?

Attached diagram. only found 3 jerks on rear rod and there is another rod in first half of car with u and cylinder joints without jerks. Do we grease this shaft as well? How do we do?
I got silicon lubricant spray and multipurpose PTFE spray. Can I use that on this first half shaft.

Have been changing the suspension on my hj60 which was last registered on 09/12. Been a long time since last used, been dry stored and must say not a spot of rust on it!

I did a body off restoration and swapped the body for a better one after buying it off ebay for £450 back in 2008.. She's a good one it has a 65mm body lift and now has 50mm terrain tamer new leafs so going to run 35's on it and drive it on salt free roads! The 2h is just run in at 190k miles and has a front mount inter cooler and a nice big turbo!

It's gonna make a good daily drive...lol... contemplating fitting a 1hdt and a h155f onto it maybe in the summer! Life is good! Lol! :)

Need to make sure these are torque'd up correctly. If they're too tight and you're struggling to get them undone on your driveway, they will be almost impossible to shift if you get stuck on the side of the road trying to change the wheel !

True, most of the things are like that, making it important to learn and do maintenance on own. I got auto transmission fluid and filter changed approx 2000 miles ago and today I saw it was leaking. Hope it’s just overflow. Drive shaft joints were dry with no sign of grease despite getting two full services in last 6000 miles. Requested to change every fluid n oil on car but still break power steering fluids n coolant are not changed. it’s confusing as YouTube university says to have grease with every service and by 50K miles (80K kms) almost every fluid should be renewed.

Seems like a fair bit of time spent on the 200 series @Raj, well done!! Always feel good to get some work done on cars after the Xmas food and drink…

Sorry can’t help with the grease and bang noise query, I am sure someone here will chip in soon to explain…

No problem. Thank you Aeroelastic. I spent 7 hrs to do just this job. Also my first mechanic job in life. I got two tubes of Castrol lithium molly grease n finished them.
Next time m confident to grease front shaft. Don’t know about 80, 90 n other LCs but mine has two drive shafts rear and front.

I always keep a breaker bar in the back of my Prado, as the above situation could occur. You never know if those tyre shops could have just used a high torque air gun to tighten those nuts in the previous tyre change, as some people are just lazy. I don’t really use a torque wrench on tyre nuts but at least hand tighten them to a suitable degree. The don’t need to be super tight..,
