AT Transmission Heating up

Niall,
I think there is some other probleme here with your 80. Let me say the
why. My 1992 80 is the old AT with no renewing - it has run 280.000
kilometres! Them recently I put intercooler kit, bigger turbo and new
bloc motor. I also put temperature gage for AT juste to be certain it
not over heats.
Well last month I tow my heavy Range Rover on heavy german trailer up
many longe steep hills to go to some 4x4 trial, I stay in high range,
and my AT temperateurs are never over 50=B0C !
Now you say you have overheats with no trailer of 3,5 tonnes glued to
your butt and I say something is wrong! My 80 have from factory the
AT cooler, but I move it like Lionel say because I am like he say
large intercooler in front of the
But I have no AT overheat! You do not say that your AT oil Temp light
is verified. I can tell you a true story. When we put my new Toyota
bloc, the dash board gage reads no oil pressure! Oh butt cheeks! So
we put a second oil pressure gage, and guess what, the Toyota gage had
it all wrong!
So if your radiateur is too hot why do you suspecte the AT? Just for
that little light? What if you have a insuffience of main radiateur?
There is more thinking and testing to do here with that probleme.

Guys
Haven't been had access to e-mailsince last writing.
Thanks to all for the feedback. It saved me amajor mechanical problem
down the road for sure.
My problem seerms to have been operator error - not5 using low range
when necessary - necessary at least for my gear box.
Have altered my driving and have not had any overheating issues since.
I have since lost 1st gear - in so far as if its anyway warm I have no
power. A quick shift into Low High gets me going. All other gears OK.
Oil smells good.
For now I'm driving on and see what happens. If necessary down the
track I'll swap out the box for a manual - last resort.
Anyway. In Dar es Salam and head for an attempt at Killimanjero
(spelling??) in an hour or so.
Have clocked up about 25K km to date - all good so far.
You have to watch your lights and mirrors at the lights in Dar - lads
will swipe them while your stopped if your not on the ball.
Oh yes- front wheel fell off just south of lake Turkana in Kenya 2
weeks back - luckily I was going slow and no major damage done. Have
since fitted a replancment swivel housing as the 4 bolts that hold it
onto the steering arm ghad come loose and sheered. A garage were able
to refit 2 bolts and I had enough spares to complete the bush repair -
how the cv didnt break I'll never know.
I had to hire a police vehicle and 3 armed guards for 2 days as
security as it was aremote breakdown and I had to r eravel agood
distance by truck for to make repairs.
That5 part of Kenya is very tribal and where I broke down was on the
edge of where there is alot of angry locals. I had about 50 tribes men
around me when I was making repairs - the coppers rekoned they were
going to burn the vehicle if it was there any longer. They also said
there was nothing they could do to stiop them.....
Anyway, - thanks again
Keep it lit
Niall

Benoit,
Like the British, not everyone is friends with us either, but perhaps we
both have less enemies than the Americans at the moment?
Very wild story, sounds like Niall is adapting well to what is thrown at
him. Going with an auto box and coming back with a manual would be some
change!
